Trivia / Pharrell Williams

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: While he used to defend the song, he now regrets doing "Blurred Lines" and says that it catered to a chauvinist culture.
    • He's also not fond of his solo debut album In My Mind, having said in a March 2014 interview with GQ that all the songs about the rich and famous lifestyle served no long-term purpose and that he was living in the wrong state of mind.
  • Production Posse: Aside from Chad Hugo, Shae Haley, and everyone who had been signed to Star Trak Entertainment, his most frequent collaborators include Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg.
  • What Could Have Been: He has mentioned that many of the songs that he wrote for other people that have him singing the course were originally written with someone else in mind to sing the course. However, the artist would usually end up liking his vocals on the demo enough that they would keep his vocals on the track instead of having someone else sing them.
    • Also applies to some of his own songs:
      • "Frontin’" was initially written for Prince.
      • "Fun, fun, fun" (from Despicable Me) was originally written for Donald Fagen of Steely Dan.
      • "Happy" was originally written for Ceelo Green.
      • "Come Get It Bae" was originally "My Motorcycle" by Rhea Dumett (the frontwoman of the group Jealous Lover and the very short-lived fourth member of N.E.R.D).
    • Some songs by other people written by him were also written with others in mind. Notable examples include:
      • All of the Neptunes-produces tracks on Justin Timberlake’s Justified album were written for Michael Jackson.
      • Britney Spears’ "I’m a Slave 4 U" was written for Janet Jackson.
      • The beat for Kelis’s "Caught out There" was originally meant for Busta Rhymes.
      • "Milkshake" was written for Britney Spears.
      • "Grindin’" would have gone to Bjork if Clipse has passed on it.
      • The beat to Migos’s "Stir Fry" was meant for T.I.
    • "Doctoer (Work It Out)", his collaboration with Miley Cyrus, was initially written and recorded for the latter's 2013 album Bangerz but didn't make the final cut of the album before being rerecorded and released as a single in 2024.
