- California Doubling: The scenes in Norway were shot in Galway, Ireland.
- Completely Different Title:
- The French title is Les Loups de Haute Mer ("North Sea Wolves").
- In West Germany it was known as Sprengkommando Atlantik (lit. Demolition Squad Atlantic).
- When it was first broadcast on American television in 1983, it was renamed Assault Force.
- Fake Nationality: The English Jack Watson plays the Norwegian captain.
- Irony as She Is Cast: ffolkes immensely dislikes smoking, whereas Roger Moore went from cigarettes to cigars.
- Playing Against Type: Roger Moore took the role of the scruffy misogynist ffolkes to play something else than a certain suave womanizing secret agent. Ironically, he still ended up sharing the screen with several of his past James Bond costars including David Hedison from Live and Let Die and George Baker from The Spy Who Loved Me.
- Self-Adaptation: Jack Davis adapted his own novel Esther, Ruth and Jennifer.
- Vanity License Plate: The Prime Minister's car at the end actually belongs to Moore; the plates begin with "RGM" for "Roger George Moore."
- What Could Have Been: Richard Harris was the original choice for ffolkes, but he turned it down as he was tiring of playing action heroes at this point in his career. It was his suggestion that the producers approach his friend Roger Moore for the role.
