- Executive Meddling: ITV tried to axe the show in 1993 so they could air films in midweek and not have to break for news. When they succeeded in 1999, the BBC decided to move their broadcast to 10pm to cash in, and the ratings have never been the same since.
- The same happened when it was moved to 10:30pm for chat show disaster The Nightly Show. Fans were only too pleased to have it back.
- Role-Ending Misdemeanour: Double subverted - Reginald Bosanquet was suspended in 1976 after his marital issues were published in the press, but came back after a while. The shadow never quite left him, though, and he quit three years later.
