  • Descended Creator: Hayao Miyazaki himself voices the elderly Nekobaa-chan.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Unless you happen to be lucky enough to watch it at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan, or at Ghibli Park in Nagakute, Japan, good luck trying to watch this film, as like all of the shorts at the museum, the film has never been released outside of the museum and park. Cam recordings of the short film do exist on the internet, but they're usually quickly taken down by Ghibli, making them incredibly sparse.
  • No Export for You: The short film has never received a public release outside of the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan, and Ghibli Park in Nagakute, Japan and it is highly unlikely that it will in the near future. The only time it has been shown outside of the museum and park was a private screening at John Lasseter's house in 2003 as a personal thank you from Miyazaki for his involvement with the English dub of Spirited Away.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The idea of there being multiple giant Totoros was an idea that was originally planned for My Neighbor Totoro before it was scrapped in favor of the singular Totoro that appears in the film. This short film revisits and realizes the idea.
  • Sequel Gap: The short film was released in 2002, 14 years after the release of My Neighbor Totoro.
