Trivia / Mega Man Revolution

Go To

  • Approval of God: The original creator Mike Crain liked the updates by ACE_Spark and is taking them in account in his updates.
  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • One of the biggest issues in OG was the soundtrack, with songs that tended to be dull at best or grating at worst. The soundtrack being done by Sprites Inc. will, thankfully, be better. After Mike Crain became the lead developer again, it was later confirmed that there would be an option to switch between the original soundtrack, his remixed songs, and the Sprites Inc. ones.
    • After complaints about Revolution being another 8-bit styled fangame, a 16-bit graphics option was added as well as 16-bit versions of the Remastered songs.
    • The Robot Masters not appearing in the original endings of the game had shown some concern, since they were all fused into the Amalgam, implying the fate of them being Killed Off for Real. Thankfully, it was eventually confirmed that they would be recovered for their epilogue scenes in Remix's endings.
    • Originally, the plot point of Dr. Remir being an alien from another planet who hides on Earth came right out of nowhere. As shown in this quadruple level preview video, actual foreshadowing has been added, mainly by having Duo investigate into the matter. Remir also got minor design changes to show he's not what he seems.
  • Channel Hop: This game was adopted and by ACE_Spark of Sprites INC. It gets more mixed by April 2019, due to Mike Crain wanting to finish off the game himself with the Sprites INC. staff's assistance and ACE as an advisor, since ACE had trouble with real life issues and handling other projects at the same time as Revolution (Quint's Revenge 2 and Make A Good Mega Man Level 3).
    • This even applied to the engine, which was switched from Multimedia Fusion 2 to Construct 3. This was due to both Mike and ACE having a lot of issues with the former. The change of engine also allowed for the team to do stuff that Fusion's limitations wouldn't allow them to do, such as cutscenes being more unique for each character (rather than them all reusing the same cutscenes but with minor dialogue changes), various different effects, and some other features.
    • After Mike's personal struggles with using Facebook, posts about the progress of Remix were moved to Twitter.
  • Creator Breakdown: ACE_Spark's fragile physical health crept up during his tenure as head developer of Remix, which led to him stepping down from the position with the resulting lack of motivation (as well as putting his side project Quint's Revenge 2 on momentary hiatus), though he became a supervisor for the game after Mike retook the mantle. However, according to comments on one of ACE's streams, this happened to Mike in turn, with development slowing down due to two successive spinal operations, his own set of physical illnesses, and mental issues on top of it. In a reverse of the usual expectations, Mike has claimed that he will soldier on regardless, and Remix's tone is noticeably sillier than OG.
  • Development Gag: Several.
    • Formerly, the serial number for the Robot Masters was FIN (Fifth Independent Number), named after the creator of the game. The serial number is now RRN (which can stand for many thigs, like Revolution Remix Number, Robot Revolution Number, or Remir Robot Number), due to the Fifth Independent name being out of use.
    • Mega Man's pose when he enters a stage comes from the prototype, though now done in the traditional Mega Man pixel art style and with the addition of his helmet coming on (ala Mega Man 2).
    • Blast Man appears in Amp Man’s stage in Remix. In OG, as well as early development of Remix (prior to the above-mentioned Channel Hop, which occurred after 11’s release, as ACE was still heading development when Blast Man was revealed for 11, though the name change did happen during that time), Amp Man was named Blast Man.
  • Recycled Script: The initial plot seems similar to 8, with a meteor crashing on Earth and Dr. Wily using the Evil Energy from it to power up and unleash an army of robots. Invoked, as it takes a completely different turn if you collect all the letters before fighting him.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • At first, this game was being developed in 2002-2003 with The Games Factory engine, and had major differences. Development on this version stopped however due to Mike thinking it wasn’t very good and due to TGF not being suitable for his ideas for the game. This version of Revolution is referred to as the “prototype” version.
      • It had Wily Wars styled graphics. The default graphics option for Remix has a similar coloration.
      • Quick Man and Heat Man were in what would be Haste Man and Pyre Man's place.
    • The game was originally meant to end with a Hopeless Boss Fight with Zero, but it was cut after Mega Man Unlimited got backlash for having a similar approach, albeit with a prototype Zero.
    • In older versions, Remir never had a moustache. He got one later when someone suggested Mike Crain add one to give him some similarities to Nikola Tesla.
    • In Sprites INC. build 8.7.5, the Doppelganger was a Wily Castle boss. It got moved to the Sondebar Base in Remix and Punchboy took its place as a Wily Castle boss.
    • On the topic of Wily Castle, Remix originally had the weapon testing facility and castle cistern as Wily 4 and Wily 5 respectively. When Mike Crain took back development, he swapped their order not just because he thought the weapon testing facility would be more dangerous than the cistern, but also for music-related reasons (Wily 5 uses Outer Appearances, but it was never written for the cistern, so it didn't really fit).
    • The Sondebar Base also had stages swapped in Remix, with it's 4th (elevator/Amalgams) and 5th (Doppelganger) stages also being switched.
    • Custom Man was meant to be announced later than it actually was. Plus, the design of it's default appearance was different, having an actual face and lighter armor.
    • In older versions, the Ion Blade was a mandatory reward given in the game's final level. Remix has it be an optional item found in a bonus level instead.
    • According to the initial Bandcamp page for the Remastered soundtrack, "On the Run" (originally named "On the Mend") was meant for the 4th (originally 5th) Sondebar Base stage. In 2021, the song was shifted to a new level and the 4th Sondebar Base stage got a cover of the song Deathro did for the level for the 8-bit soundtrack.
  • Word of God: Mike Crain refers to the original version of Revolution as "OG".
