Go To

  • Acting for Two: Alice Helenport and Aileen Mythen, who voice two of the background singing Silkworms are also the voices of Elodie and Shella respectively.
  • The Cast Showoff: Freya Mclaughlin, the voice of Lu, takes singing lessons. She was able to show off these talents anytime Lu sang.
  • Children Voicing Children: Lu and her classmates are voiced by actual children.
  • Cowboy Be Bop At His Computer: Some descriptions of the episode "Fruit Caboose" erroneously tells of Lu's fruit being bitten being an apple, instead of a pear. This may be because in the original pilot, Declan took Lu's apple instead of her pear.
  • Development Gag: Lu calls herself Ladybird Lu at the beginning of the theme song. Ladybird Lu was the original name of the show.
  • Fan Community Nicknames: "Invertebro" for male fans, and "Invertebrette" for female fans.
  • Fandom Life Cycle: Currently at Stage 1. There are a few really dedicated fans (mostly on Scratch), as well as a Wikia site, a small subreddit, and at least one Neocities fanpage. Most of the fandom is on Scratch currently, but some people (including the operator of the Neocity) have hope this may be another Bluey or My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic situation.
  • Early-Bird Release:
    • Thirteen shorts were uploaded to the Cartoonito website on March 29th, 2023, three days before the series officially made a premiere.
    • Five out of the six initial episodes released on ABC iView when the show premiered in Australia had not been aired yet in the country, three of them being new worldwide. note
  • He Also Did: The showrunner, Nicky Phelan, is best known for his work on Bing and The Octonauts.
  • Newbie Boom: After the series premiered in Canada, the series gained a massive boost in popularity. People ripped CBC Kids broadcasts and uploaded them to Youtube, exposing the show to more people.
  • Out of Holiday Episode: “Bug Nollig”, which is clearly meant to be a Christmas Episode, was originally released on CBC Gem on September 4th.
  • Real-Life Relative: Colm Tobin is a writer on the show, and his son Leo voices Barnaby.
  • Recycled Script: The episode "Goodbye Rain Boots" is very similar to the Bing episode "Wellies", as both episodes revolve around the main character not wanting to get rid of their favorite boots and them eventually getting upset when the boots break. They both find a new way to use the boots, with Bing using his as a flowerpot and Lu using hers as an umbrella holder for the Teapot Cafe.
  • Short Run in Peru: The series premiered in New Zealand on TVNZ before airing in either Canada, the USA, or Ireland, the main areas of its production.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In the original footage for the show, Elodie's design was much more reminiscent to an earthworm than her newer design.
    • Gus and Declan's designs were also slightly different, the most notable one being their lack of hair.
    • Declan, Elodie, and Biba's original names were Warren, Willow, and Bintu.
    • The show was originally titled "Ladybird Lu" when it was announced.
    • Before that, there was a test pilot for the show titled "Ladybird Dot". In that pitch, the character designs were even more different than they were before.
  • Write What You Know: The series is based off Nicky Phelan's experiences of helping out at his mother's nursery.
  • Write Who You Know: Aidan and Lola, Barnaby’s twin siblings, are based off real life twins Aidan and Lola Moran-Tyrell, who also provide the voice of Bo.
