- Completely Different Title: Known in Taiwan as 畢業有蜥望 , which means something like "Graduation Has a Lizard's Hope."
- Creator's Oddball: Most of Adam Sandler's Happy Madison productions are live action note raunchy comedies filled with an abundance of strong language, sexual references and Toilet Humor. In stark contrast, Leo heavily downplays these elements and is a more uplifting Dramedy, and treats its message and dramatic moments with complete sincerity.
- Playing Against Type:
- Rob Schneider is known for playing zany and over the top comic relief characters, often involving some form of Fake Nationality. In this film, the school principal is a far more downplayed and mundane figure, and Schneider plays the part completely straight.
- In the Polish dub Leo is voiced by Wojciech Machnicki who is normally known for playing characters with unpleasant personalities, villains and characters with short temper. Nonetheless, he gives Leo a really warm grandfatherly voice that fits his character.
- Real-Life Relative: Sandler's daughters, Sunny and Sadie, voice Summer and Jayda respectively, with his wife Jackie also voicing the latter's mother.
- Similarly Named Works: With the 2023 Indian film Leo, also subtitled Bloody Sweet, in order to avoid confusion, which was released a month before this one was released.
- Written by Cast Member: In addition to voicing the title character, Adam Sandler also co-wrote the film.
- What Could Have Been: Adam Sandler had the idea for a animated musical set on the last year of elementary school for a while though his earlier version had the kids as the main focus of the film with the class pet, being a snake in the original draft, as the narrator. However, Director Robert Smigel, while he did like the concept of Sandler's idea, thought it felt like a live action movie than an animated one and suggested that the class pet be the main focus of the feature instead as he helps with the kid's problems.
