For the Movie:

  • Breakaway Pop Hit: Blues Traveler's 1990 song "But Anyway" found a resurgence in popularity (peaking at #36 on Billboard's Radio Songs chart) after the ending of the film features them performing the song in Amish getup.
  • Completely Different Title: The film was released under the title Vaya par de idiotas ("What a pair of idiots") in Latin America.
  • Directed by Cast Member: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Gabriela Gómez is Claudia's voice actress as well as the ADR director.
  • One-Take Wonder: Bill Murray really bowled 3 strikes in a row for the climactic tournament finale scene. They didn't have to try again.
  • Throw It In!: Bill Murray threw out the script after his first read and improvised the entire role.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Chris Farley was offered the part of Ishmael, but had to turn it down due to contractual obligations to Black Sheep. Arnold Schwarzenegger was also considered for the role.
    • Michael Keaton was considered for the role of Roy.
    • Jim Carrey was considered for Ernie McCracken.
    • Kingpin was originally going to end with Roy winning a million dollars in a casino after losing to Ernie, but it was changed during production.

For the Pinball game:

  • Shelved for Release: The game was nearly complete, barring some minor tweaking of the rules, when Capcom closed its pinball division before manufacturing could begin.
