Trivia Tropes:

  • All-Star Cast: The names of the series' regulars (Lionnel Astier, Franck Pitiot, etc...) might remain a bit obscure for non-fans outside those of Alexandre Astier, but otherwise there's plenty of more widely known French show-business names such as François Morel, Guillaume Gallienne, Clovis Cornillac, Alain Chabat, Géraldine Nakache, Antoine de Caunes, Christian Clavier... and there's even Sting.
  • The Character Died with Him: The movie strongly implies that Léodagan's father, Goustan the Cruel, died during the Time Skip. His actor, Philippe Nahon, had an undisclosed "long illness" that made him unavailable for the filming in 2019. He died in April 2020 at age 81 from the illness that was aggravated by COVID-19 (the trope wasn't enforced since filming happened when he was still alive, but it became this since his passing happened over a year before the release).
  • Copiously Credited Creator: Astier produced, wrote, directed, edited and starred in the film, and also composed the soundtrack.
  • Descended Creator: Alexandre Astier plays Arthur once again and directed the film.
  • Dueling Works:
  • Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: The "Epic Edition" Blu-ray + 4K + DVD (yes, the same film on three home video formats) contains the largest amount of DVD Bonus Content, an artbook, a tin coin of the Kingdom of Logres and 24 character posters.
  • Produced by Cast Member: The film was produced by Regular Production, i.e. Alexandre Astier's company.
  • Real-Life Relative: Most notably, Alexandre Astier's parents Lionnel Astier and Joëlle Sevilla reprise their roles as Arthur's in-laws Léodagan and Séli, and Alexandre's firstborn son Neil Astier reprises a young Arthur (from the show's sixth season) in the flashbacks in which he's training to be integrated in the Roman legions. His daughters also reprise their role as Karadoc's daughters, now grown-up.
  • Release Date Change: The film was first supposed to come out in France on October 14, 2020. Then it was moved earlier to July 29, 2020. Then the COVID-19 Pandemic forced it to move to November 25, which didn't stick due to theaters still being closed in France at the time. It was eventually released on July 21, 2021.
  • Role Reprise: Most of the main cast and a lot of guests came back ten years after the end of the series.
  • Saved from Development Hell: It took about ten years to Alexandre Astier to get the project off the ground. He confirmed the project at the Paris Comic Con in 2012, but then faced a number of issues, including losing the rights (which he regained in 2015) and finding ways to finance it. In January 2019, a trilogy was eventually announced.
  • Separated-at-Birth Casting: Despite Ariane and Jeanne Astier actually being Alexandre Astier (Arthur)'s daughters, they are ridiculously believable as the offspring of Jean-Christophe Hembert (Karadoc) and Caroline Ferrus (Mevanwi), especially in adulthood.
  • Sequel Gap: It took twelve years (2009-2021) to see a sequel to the series being released.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: A theatrical film sequel to the Kaamelott series.
  • Swan Song: Not for an actor from the film, but for the narrator of one of the trailers, Daniel Beretta. This was his final film trailer before he stopped voice acting for health reasons. He passed away in March 2024.
  • Troubled Production: The production of the second part of the trilogy has been delayed by over a year.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Astier first announced two films, before deciding that the second movie would actually be split in two films, forming a potential trilogy.
    • Léodagan's father, Goustan the Cruel, was planned to have a role in the movie, but this became impossible due to the undisclosed illness of his actor, Philippe Nahon, and so the character was written out when the filming happened in 2019. He eventually passed away in April 2020.
  • Written by Cast Member: Alexandre Astier wrote the film in addition to playing Arthur and directing it.

Miscellaneous Trivia:

  • For Horsa (the leader of the Saxons), Alexandre Astier wanted someone "with an English accent à la Sting". He thought twice about what he said, and simply decided to ask the man himself who, to his surprise, agreed to play the role and even dropped from doing a Remake Cameo in Dune for it.
  • French astronaut Thomas Pesquet is a huge fan of Kaamelott, but he was on a mission on the International Space Station when the film came out (he brought a set of the entire series with him on the space station). Fans petitioned to send him a copy in space, and Alexandre Astier sent him one before the French premiere, with English subtitles for his non-French astronaut colleagues. Thus the film might have premiered in space.
  • The film attracted more people during its preview screenings on July 20, 2021 (a boffo 320.000 theater admissions) than on its opening day, July 21 (which was about 280.000 admissions for all films in theaters combined that day, including 116.000 for the film itself). This was due to the extension of the COVID-19 health pass (requiring people to be vaccinated or have a proof of negative PCR test) to theaters and other public places being enforced on July 21.
  • One particularly devoted fan named Arnaud Klein has watched the film in theaters 204 times (which sadly hasn't been homologated by Guinness World Records) to beat the record held by the man who watched Avengers: Endgame 203 times. Astier promised him to attend a screening with him, and obliged on the 200th.
  • The film's soundtrack was released by Deutsche Grammophon, a rare honor for a French film. Even rarer, it was released before the film (in 2020, a few weeks before its intended first release that was moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
