• Disowned Adaptation: Liza Minnelli publicly said she didn't approve of the project shortly before its release.
• Dyeing for Your Art: Renée Zellweger wore grey contact lenses to match the real Judy Garland's eyes, and spent a year training with a vocal coach to prepare herself for the role. Averted for her hair, which was just a wig.
• Fake American: Almost all the cast members, with the exception of Renee Zellweger and Finn Wittrock, were British or, in the case of Gemma-Leah Devereux as Liza Minelli, Irish actors playing Americans and doing so extremely convincingly.
• Fake Brit: Irish Jessie Buckley plays the British Rosalyn Wilder.
• What Could Have Been: A Judy Garland biopic had been planned in the early 2010s, where she would be played by Anne Hathaway. The story would be based on the biography Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, focusing on her experiences with sexual harassment from various studio execs.
