  • Acting for Two: Shah Rukh Khan plays both Vikram and Azad Rathore.
  • Dawson Casting: Shah Rukh Khan was in his late 50s when he played Azad, who is in his thirties, (if he was born after Vikram was rescued by the villagers, since there is a thirty year Time Skip). The younger Vikram in the flashbacks and the prologue is also implied to be in his thirties.
  • Playing Against Type: Played with. Shah Rukh Khan got famous playing villains. After he became too beloved to have audiences oppose him, he switched to playing heroes. Here, the opening scene is a metro hijacking where looks like SRK might be the villain… but actually he's an Anti-Hero who's increasingly framed as the hero as the movie goes on.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Sunil Grover, who plays Irani in the movie, has been a fan of Shah Rukh Khan for a very long time. He did some sketch comedy on TV parodying SRK's game shows in the 2000snote . He also paid tribute to the actor on Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show in episodes where SRK was a special guest.
  • Underage Casting: Shah Rukh Khan was in his late fifties when he played Vikram Rathore, who is in his sixties in the present day. Vijay Sethupathi was in his mid-forties when he played the similarly aged Kalee in the present day.
