Trivia / House Party (1990)

Go To

  • The Cast Showoff: In the first movie, Kid and Play really get to showcase their superb dancing skills at the party at one point, as do Tisha Campbell and A.J. Johnson.
  • The Character Died with Him: Robin Harris, who played Kid's father, died shortly after the first film was released. The sequel says that he died in-between films.
  • The Danza: Kid 'N Play of course (Though Play's first name was changed to Peter to avoid confusion, as they both have the same first name) along with Robin Harris (known as Mr. Harris in the film).
  • Dawson Casting: Kid N' Play were in their late twenties in the first two films, but were cast as teenagers. Also, Kid was roughly only ten years Robin Harris' junior at the time of filming but played the role of his son.
  • Direct to Video: The fourth and fifth films. The sixth film narrowly avoided this fate as it was intended to be released as an HBO Max exclusive but later secured a theatrical release.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: One to The Pink Panther theme plays in the second movie as Kid, Play, Bilal, and Jamal are sneaking into the faculty cafeteria.
  • Throw It In!: Most, if not all of Robin Harris' dialogue was improvised. He also had an unscripted dozens battle with a then-unknown A.J. Johnson during filming at the directors' request, but it was cut from the movie; save for one insult from Harris ("Follow the drip!").
  • What Could Have Been: DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince were originally offered the lead roles, but they turned them down because they weren't interested in making films at the time, and they were also getting sued by New Line over "Nightmare On My Street". Their doing so may have been a blessing in disguise though...note
