• Production Posse: Lots of roles, both big and small, are played by actors who have been in many other Akira Kurosawa movies.
• Completely Different Title: Original title is Heaven and Hell.
  • Greek: The Killer of Tokyo
  • Italian: Anatomy of a Kidnapping
• Irony as She Is Cast: Yutaka Sada, who plays Aoki, Gondo's chauffeur, didn't know how to drive, and a double had to be used for the scenes where Aoki drives his son around looking for clues.
• Those Two Actors: While Takashi Shimura was one of Akira Kurosawa's stock company, Kurosawa reunites Shimura with Susumu Fujita (they both play police chiefs here); they were the stars of Kurosawa's directorial debut, Sanshiro Sugata.
