• Approval of God: Vanripper made a "Demontober" art series in 2021 as a way to express appreciation and approval of his fanbase through "Inktober"-style drawings, including OCs like Grizz's version of Baphomet and Belphagor from Second Circle.
• Colbert Bump: Mittsies was already a decently prolific musician with a moderate fanbase starting around 2013, but it wasn't until their music was used in this game that their popularity skyrocketed, getting a boost in YouTube subscribers and suddenly gaining hundreds of thousands to millions of views on their videos.
• Referenced by...: Oversaturated World: Group Precipitation: "A Hell Trek, by FoME": Significant Anagram, about a demon girl Harem Seeker with Summon Magic.
• Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: Vanripper, the game's creator, doesn't seem to mind people making porn of the characters in this game. This post◊ has him say that if people flood the internet with Helltaker porn, then "I did my job right" because it inspires imagination (given that part of the reason he made the game in the first place was to inspire more art of demon girls in suits, he likely sees it as a win anyway). He did his job right.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Cerberus was originally meant to be younger-looking in development, at least until the artist realized he was playing with fire, visibly aged her up, and gave her the triplet gimmick instead.
  • Commentary and Concept Art for Modeus the Lustful Demon reveal that she was a LOT more open about her sexuality, wearing her shirt unbuttoned, sleeves hanging off her arms, and not wearing a jacket. Her creator states that a friend told him she was looking far too trashy, which led to the more conservative "cupcake" design we have now, chief of which is her turtleneck sweater that covers up most of her skin. Her name was also originally going to be "Sodomy, The Love Starved Demon." However, the creator realized it was a bad idea just as he was about to send the Alpha version of the game out for testing and changed it.
  • Malina was going to have video game inspired tattoos, but it was too difficult to draw them consistently or in a recognizable way, so the idea was dropped.
  • One of the Helltaker's concept names before the final one was settled on was "Devildoer."
  • Examtaker was originally meant to be just a comic, but Vanripper decided to slap some gameplay onto it and see how it would go.
  • Examtaker wasn't originally going to be such a Brutal Bonus Level, but Mittsies noted and complained that the test version was too easy for bonus content, to which Vanripper took note of and redesigned the level to make it outright agony to play through.
• Word of Gay: Vanripper has implied that Azazel is a lesbian, but in the closet about it◊.
• Word of God:
  • In the artbook, Judgement is described as the designer's favorite Undertale Guilty Gear Darksiders TOTALLY ORIGINAL character. What characters specifically went into making her are left up to the reader's guesswork (Sol Badguy's jacket has clearly inspired hers, and her Large Ham speechifying covering up a dorky personality is very reminiscent of Undyne).
  • Similarly, the artbook also refers to Cerberus as Vanripper's favorite Hazbin Hotel totally original character, with a strong resemblance to both Charlie and Alastor. Concept art even shows them doing a few of Alastor's poses.
