Trivia / Hawkeye (2012)

  • Out of Order: Issue #7 features Clint and Kate dealing with Hurricane Sandy, placing it before issue #6. The collected edition puts them in the correct order.
  • Sleeper Hit: The series did not have exceptional hype around it before release, only mild intrigue for its premise — taking a well-known, but not quite spotlight-stealing Avenger, focusing on his everyday life when he's not being a superhero, taking cues from quirky indie movies and featuring a minimalist, stylized art-style far removed from the more realistic "house style" seen throughout Marvel. Then it was released to massive acclaim, and rapid word-of-mouth quickly turned the 22-issue series into a smashing success, arguably surpassing The Avengers (2012) as leaving the biggest impact on Clint Barton's character (greatly inspiring much of the eventual live-action TV series in 2021) and becoming one of the definitive works of Marvel's New Tens.
  • What Could Have Been: David Aja's sketchbook extras show that at one point, Clint was to have a sleeker redesign of his classic costume before the team decided on Civvie Spandex. The Clown was also to look more disheveled, outright looking like a homeless man in clown makeup and a clown nose before steadily evolving into a more sophisticated mime-like look.
  • Word of God: In the letter column of issue #13, Steve Wacker confirmed that Kate Bishop and Hawkeye were never going to hook up despite some Ship Tease.
