Trivia / Hausu

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit: Before this movie Nobuhiko Obayashi directed TV commercials and experimental films. After Hausu he focused on studio movies.
  • Late Export for You: The film wasn't released in the West until 2009 when Janus Films and The Criterion Collection picked up the rights to it, where it was originally going to be released as an Eclipse title note  until multiple theaters requested prints and had sold out showings across America.
  • What Could Have Been: Director Nobuhiko Obayashi was at one point apparently involved in the production of a Godzilla film, to be entitled A Space Godzilla. Though Toho turned it down for various reasons, one of which was that it was just too damn weird, the concept later saw life as a short story published in ''Starlog'' Magazine, where Obayashi was name-dropped as director. It is more or less exactly as you would expect. Also, according to the same magazine, GODIEGO would have returned to compose the score.
