Trivia / Gaither's Pond

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The show was mostly relegated to obscurity until it was re-discovered by several YouTubers who made videos about it, most notably Saberspark.
  • Creator Backlash: Benjy Gaither joked about the series at a college commencement speech:
"As years went by, I realized God put my family on this earth to make music, not animations."
  • The Danza: Each character has a Punny Name on the name of the musician from The Gaithers' Gospel Music ensemble who provides their voice.
  • Follow the Leader: The show along with The Gaithers's other projects such as Dorbees: Making Decisions were very likely created with the hope of riding the coattails of VeggieTales, which was seeing remarkable success at the time after debuting several years before.
  • He Also Did: Besides his other work as Live Bait Productions, Benjy Gaither would go on to voice Japeth the Goat in Hoodwinked! and several NPCs in World of Warcraft.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Nearly every character in the show is designed to resemble their actor, right down to a Punny Name based on their real name, similar to Shark Tale (which actually came out a few years after the series ended).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Unlike other Live Bait Productions videos, this is actually averted with Fish Tales, The Great Divide, and The Legend at Gaither's Pond, which can all still be purchased in DVD form off the Gaither Vocal Band website. Played straight with The Lure Depths, however, which was flat-out lost media until 2019. It was believed to have never been re-released on DVD for a while, but a quick trip to the Wayback Machine proves this wrong.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: Two more full episodes of the series entitled Go West and A Gaither's Pond Christmas are listed on some sites, but Go West is for The Homecoming Kids (Another kids' video series by the Gaithers) and if the records of someone who worked on both ''The Legend at Gaither's Pond" and the planned next video are to be believed, nothing ever materialized after the fourth episode.
