• Executive Meddling: In Samuel Fuller's original ending, Griff shoots and kills Jessica after Brockie takes her hostage. According to Fuller, 20th Century Fox forced him to change the ending to the one in which Griff wounds Jessica and then kills Brockie.
• No Stunt Double: Barbara Stanwyck's stuntwoman refused to to be dragged along a street by a horse, saying that it was too dangerous. Without further ado, the 49-year old Stanwyck did it by herself. She got some bruises and scrapes, but was fine.
• What Could Have Been: Marilyn Monroe wanted to play Jessica Drummond, but Samuel Fuller turned her down in favor of Barbara Stanwyck, who was always his first choice.
• Working Title: Woman with a Whip.
