• Award Category Fraud: Viola Davis was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress when it can easily be argued that she's a co-lead, especially since she won a Tony for Lead Actress when performing the part on Broadway. (There are certainly critics who argue that despite her large role, she was correctly categorized as her character serves a supporting role narratively.) Davis invoked this herself, feeling the category was less competitive. It paid off, with her practically sweeping the awards season that year, taking home the Golden Globe, SAG, the BAFTA, and the Oscar.
