Trivia / Duets

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $21 million. Box office: $6 million. Despite some initial buzz surrounding some of the film's titular duets, it did nothing to help its poor critical reception and box office intake. This was one of numerous flops that led to Disney shuttering the Hollywood Pictures division.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: Of Gwyneth Paltrow's three songs in the movie, her duet of "Cruisin'" with Huey Lewis was a #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart and also topped the charts in Australia and New Zealand, with her cover of "Bette Davis Eyes" being a top 5 hit in Australia as well. (Ironically, the most obvious candidate for pop singledom - Paltrow's end credits duet of "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" with Babyface - didn't fare nearly as successfully.)
  • The Cast Showoff: Huey Lewis obviously, but John Pinnete was also a very talented singer who did a stint as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Averted by most of the cast, but Andre Braugher's singing is done by Arnold McCuller.
