• Real-Life Relative:
  • Jeff Rawle is married to Nina Marc, who in the show plays a woman trying to marry him to get a work Visa.
  • David Swift was married to Paula Jacobs, who plays Helen's mother Bernice.
• Working Title: One of the original working titles was Dead Belgians Don’t Count. Dead Kuwaitis Don’t Count was also considered for a short time but was ultimately replaced by Drop the Dead Donkey.
• Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: The cast members confessed that most of their lines were actually written on the pieces of paper and clipboards that they were forever looking at during each episode. This was because scripts were written so close to transmission (in order to keep them topical) that they often didn't have time to learn all their lines before shooting began.
