Trivia / Count Dankula

  • Approval of God:
    • Almost a month after the Simon Mann Mad Lad, Count Dankula managed to get an interview with him. Mann liked the episode, albeit stating that a few details were off.
    • David Gersten, the artist behind the song Dank used at the end of the Ken Allen Mad Lads episode, had since reached out and expressed his approval. He also stated that there was footage of him playing the guitar in front of Ken, but it was omitted from the music video's final cut.
    • Within a week of his video on the "Mad Dog" Xu Xiaodong coming out, the actual Xu Xiaodong commented on the video (both in Mandarin and in English) and thanked Count Dankula for getting his story out there and even wrote that one day he hoped to have barbecue with Dankula as a token of international brotherhood. Borders on Tear Jerker territory though when you actually read the comment he sent him - namely that he's now forbidden for applying for a credit/debit card in China, he's been forced to sell his dojo, he's been sued - successfully - by some martial arts entities to the tune of ¥260,000 ($38,410 USD), and as he cryptically explains to avoid being red flagged immediately by Chinese censors: "some entities" have been combing through his bank accounts and anything he has offshore to make sure he isn't a traitor to the motherland, and in his own words, his parents and himself, "have been summoned multiple times by some 'special people'. They 'educated' us in a very 'friendly' and 'gentle' way", and that makes me very upset. However, there was nothing I can do about it...if you know what I mean". All for exposing fake martial arts "experts" because their fighting styles are considered culturally relevant in China while his isn't.
    • Jody Plauché, son of Gary Plauché, has stated that he has seen the video that Dankula made on his father.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Some of the his videos were privatized or were removed possibly due to their controversial nature.
