  • The Cast Show Off: Henry Winkler does a coin trick on camera that he often does in real life to entertain children.
  • Dawson Casting:
    • Played straight with Jonah Hill, who portrayed the 17-year-old Ben at age 21.
    • Averted with Lorraine Nicholson, who portrayed the 14-year-old Samantha while only slightly older at age 15.
    • Inverted with Katie Cassidy, who portrayed the 27-year-old Samantha at age 18. Cassidy was notably younger than Hill, despite playing a character who was supposed to be 10 years older.
  • Fake American: Kate Beckinsale (British) as Donna.
  • Playing with Character Type: Adam Sandler's character. More information on the trope page.
  • Production Posse: Frank Coraci had directed Adam Sandler in the comedies The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy.
  • Real-Life Relative: Kate Beckinsale's daughter Lily Mo Sheen plays the little girl at the lakeside during Michael's flashback.
  • Recycled Premise:
    • The concept of a universal remote control was done before in Buster strip Vid Kid, where the title character used his remote to solve everyday situations with often disastrous results.
    • Not to mention an episode of Goosebumps (1995) of the same name (which itself was adapted from a short story from one of the anthology books).
    • James Gunn had written a script called Rewind, where the owner of a VCR has a magic remote but was turned down by Sony in favor of Click.
    • The plot also bears an uncanny resemblance to the obscure 1989 short story Fast Forward by Jenny Pausacker, in which a boy uses a universal remote in much the same way as above, but like Click, he eventually makes the mistake of fast-forwarding through life, leaving him in an auto-pilot state in the interim, which ruins his life. The plot is resolved by him rewinding to when he first received the remote and giving it back.
  • Throw It In!: As mentioned above, Christopher Walken personally decided that Morty and Gabriel were the same person.
  • What Could Have Been: The plan was for the entire environment to be frozen whenever Michael presses pause. However, they found that this "bothered" the eye, and so only the characters would be frozen (leaving things like leaves, wind etc running normally).
