Trivia / City Hunter: The Cupid's Perfume

Go To

  • Approval of God: Tsukasa Hojo has given his blessing for the movie, noting his existing interest for director Philippe Lacheau when he received the offer for adapting City Hunter and that the script he's read had respected the spirit of the series as a whole unlike several of the propositions he's had over the years.
  • Follow the Leader: The initial trailers' choice of music was clearly inspired by Deadpool - both are action-comedy franchises with some old-school flair.
  • The Other Darrin: The Japanese dub will be the first not to feature either Akira Kamiya or Kazue Ikura as Ryo or Kaori, with both roles instead being voiced by Kōichi Yamadera and Miyuki Sawashiro respectively. That said, Kamiya and Ikura are however still in the movie as Monsieur Mokkori (and Ryo's psychologist) and Skippy's wife respectively.
  • Production Posse: Like in his previous movies, Philippe Lacheau has included the members of his famous "La Bande à Fifi" in his movie, notably creating two original characters that have little to do with the original material for Tarek Boudali and Julien Arruti while Lacheau himself and his companion Elodie Fontan play Ryo and Kaori.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Lacheau was a fan of City Hunter and more broadly of the '80s and '90s animes presented by the Club Dorothée show. This movie has been an occasion for him to play one of his heroes and work alongside former stars of the Club Dorothée, including Dorothée herself (who has a cameo in the film).
  • Recursive Import: This French film based on a Japanese anime (and its bizarre French dub) itself based on a manga got to have an official release in Japan.
  • Role Reprise: In the Japanese dub, with Tesshō Genda, Hideyuki Tanaka and Yoko Asagami set to reprise Umibozu, Hideyuki and Saeko.
