Trivia / Cannibal! The Musical

Go To

  • Completely Different Title:
    • Hungary: Who Gets Up Early, Cannibalized!
    • Iran: Man-Eating Musical
  • Creator Breakdown: The whole Liane subplot was inspired by Parker walking in on his fiancĂ©e of the same name having sex with another man a month before their wedding. He apparently kept her in the dark about this subplot considering that she helped him choreograph the dancing.
  • Cut Song: Two songs that were originally going to be in the film, but later taken out, were "Shatterproof", a rap song to be sung by Packer during the bar fight scene, and "Don't Be Stupid", a song to be sung by some of the Bingham Canyon miners after the reprise of "Shpadoinkle". An interview with Ian Keldin revealed that Trey thought "Shatterproof" made Packer seem too tough.
  • DVD Commentary: The directors got very drunk and watched their movie. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Life Imitates Art:
    • At the end of the film Packer decides he doesn't need Liane after finding love with Polly Pry. In real life Trey Parker decided he didn't need his ex Liane after finding love with Toddy Walters the actress who plays Polly Pry, though they had recently broken up when Parker recorded the DVD commentary, and he wasn't exactly subtle about the wounds still hurting.
Trey: Yeah, we got together a little while after this shoot, and we were stayed together for a good 6 or 7 years, until about a month or so ago when I fucked it up! I fucked it up!
    • Much of the Liane subplot was meant to be a Take That! to Parker's ex, especially the line where Packer says, "She couldn't have just taken off. We're friends, and friends don't just take off!"
  • Looping Lines: At the opening of the scene at the saloon near the end, the sound had been lost. When they went into ADR the scene, they didn't know what everyone had said and had to improvise. "Drink-ee-poo" came out of this improvisation.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Trey Parker dubbed in his own voice for Robert Muratore (as Frenchy) for the lead vocals of "The Trapper Song".
  • Permanent Placeholder: The word "Shpadoinkle" was originally a placeholder for the song "It's a Shpadoinkle Day," but when Trey Parker first played the song for friends they loved the word so much that it was kept.
  • Real-Life Relative: Trey Parker's father Randy played the judge.
  • Throw It In!: The sheriff says "You Know What They Say about sunrise?" then pauses and walks off without making his point. The actor was apparently drunk and forgot his lines, but Trey Parker thought it was funnier than the actual line.
  • Working Title: Alferd Packer: The Musical. Lloyd Kaufman convinced Trey Parker to change the title because, though Packer is well-known in Colorado, very few outside of the state know who he is.
  • Write Who You Hate: Trey Parker confessed in the DVD commentary that he wrote the film as a diss against his high-school sweetheart Liane, whom he was engaged with until he discovered her sleeping with an a capella singer.
  • Write What You Know: Trey Parker originally attended Berklee College of Music as a film scoring major before returning to Colorado to finish his education, so the song-stopping argument about music theory is a rather funny in-joke for music majors.
