Trivia / CPU Championship Series

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Alpharad has stated he's not satisfied with Season 4. He preferred that the series end at Season 3 due to him finding that more satisfying and felt he only continued it due to its popularity. He even went as far as to decanonize the season.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Vincent Van Gogh's first appearance was in a different video on Alpharad's Youtube channel, called "The Real Best Character in Ultimate", predating his CPUCS debut by a week. Some newcomers had this confusion once exposed to the series before delving deeper into Alpha's channel.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: LinusH111 was a Reddit user who thought the tournaments were real, and asked to be included in one. Three episodes and hundreds of memes later, Linus' Mii Fighter made it into one.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Jo's death in "THE WAY HOME" happened because in real life, Jo was leaving the channel for a few months to focus on his teaching career.
  • Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: During the Naomi vs. Chrom match in "Heir to the Throne", Alpha and Jo briefly abandon their commentary to discuss this.
Alpharad: So, um, I'm just drawing attention to this, because I want you to know. She may be 18, but... don't draw porn of her. 'Cause I actually saw that someone already has.
Jo: Why would you say that? Now more people are going to.
Alpharad: But I still think it's funny that someone already has. But please stop.
Jo: Surprisingly, there's no Vincent porn.
Alpharad: Stop it! No! No! No! No!
  • Schedule Slip:
    • There was no new episode on March 24th, 2019 due to Alpharad's food poisoning that week. On a lighter note, a small break was taken for April 7th.
    • Downplayed for Easter's episode, which was merely delayed for a day.
    • There was no new episode on June 30th, 2019 due to Alpharad being too busy with Super Mario Maker 2. And he delayed it to July 8th.
    • The longest gap between episodes was from September 23rd to November 3rd, a gap so long that they had to apologise for it. The main reason for the delay is that Alpharad's microphone stopped working during recording so he had to rerecord his side of the commentary as if he was doing it live. And then audio for the 8-person bonus tournament got lost/could not be worked on in time. And then the files containing the new voiceover got corrupted. This all happened within ONE WEEK, and was so demoralising that Alpha couldn't bring himself to work on it while also working on some big projects the team were preparing.
  • What Could Have Been: Rosalina was not intended to have won the "TIMESKIP" tournament. Had she lost, she likely wouldn't have been killed off by Blood Falcon.
  • Word of God:
    • Regarding the sponsorships, Alpharad said they are chosen not just for their high level play or common appearances, but also because of their funny implications. For example, Audible | Link doesn't talk, Skillshare | Kirby copies abilities, etc.
    • PG | Incineroar missing out on "ENDGAME" was a genuine mistake, as the gang forgot he was highly requested.
    • The Stinger for "ENDGAME" caused wild speculation until it was recently confirmed the Mii appearing in the foreground was not Vincent's daughter but instead "a Fan".
    • "ENDGAME" was announced to have canonical deaths prior to its airing. As of now, there are no plans to bring back the fallen.
    • "SUMMIT" was announced to be non-canon prior to its release. (Though people have tried to put it into canon anyways)
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: No matter how hard Alpha and company may try to control the story, whatever ideas they come up with are at the mercy of the CPUs, meaning that they've often had to change the narrative on the fly because something unexpected happened. Plus, there's the usual commentary that results in a lot of Sure, Let's Go with That, such as Rosalina and Ken dating or Ganondorf being a former professional hide-and-seek champion.
