Trivia / CKY

  • Creative Differences: The main reason why Deron and the rest of the band had such a.... heated falling out. The rest of the band characterized Deron as a raging, bitter, drunken Jerkass who locked everyone else out of the band's creative process. Deron, conversely, regularly claimed everyone else in the band was dead weight and saw himself as the true soul of the band. A mid-2011 interview outlined where they were all at - Deron wanted everyone to do solo albums and release it as a boxset, which Jess and Matty were kind of on board with, while Chad was clearly against the idea and thought it would be CKY In Name Only, and made it clear that he wanted them to be a more collaborative band but was stonewalled by Deron. 2011 ended with an onstage fight at a holiday show that culminated in Deron attempting to smash up Jess's drumkit with his guitar, then throwing it at the back wall before the band uneasily launched into "Close Yet Far", finished by Chad dejectedly telling the crowd that the band was done for good, and by all accounts, that was the end of CKY with Deron up until 2014, where they briefly reunited but split again by the following year. By 2016, the bands infighting and inability to actually record an album in the 7 years since Carver City without a long winded fight between Deron and the rest of the band finally reached a peak with Deron starting his own "MechaCKY" project after threatening to several times before, which gradually turned into 96 Bitter Beings.
  • Fatal Method Acting: Almost. In the video for "Escape From Hellview" Chad does a stunt where he gets hanged to fit with the lyrics, but the knot slipped and he started being choked to death for real. Apparently he was unconscious for close to a minute before being rescued.
  • The Other Darrin: The group has gone through more bassists than Spinal Tap has drummers! It is currently on its sixth bass player, Matty J. now that Matt Deis is no longer able to play with the band. The others include (In chronological order) Drew, Andy Smith, Ryan Bruni, Vernon Zaborowski, Matt Deis, and Matty J. Only Deis has appeared on any of their albums note .
