• Recycled Set: Different levels in the city are shown using the same set with different lighting, implying lower levels that aren't used as often and therefore don't have to be well-lit.
• Shoot the Money: This episode went so far over budget it affected the rest of the season — and became one of the best stories in the series.
• What Could Have Been: While Avon doesn't appear in this episode, he did appear in Terry Nation's original script - he was the one who told Blake to take a good look at Earth, because it would be the last time he'd see it.
• You Look Familiar: Due to there being No Budget for extraneous extras, the people seen walking the corridors in the city are later killed in the massacre, then make an Unexplained Recovery as prisoners in the transit cell.
