Trivia / Binging with Babish

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: Frequently, even he seems surprised that dishes that were probably designed by a TV writer on a lunch break actually turn out tasting pretty good. A particular one was the Twinkie Wiener Sandwich, which, despite its simple ingredients, seeming Cordon Bleugh Chef nature, and Nutritional Nightmare look, actually tasted pretty good, and even his attempt to "improve" it resulted in something he found less appetizing.
  • Approval of God:
    • The official Peep Show YouTube page left the following comment on the Moroccan Pasta video:
Peep Show: Good attempt but you needed more panic and self loathing, then you'd have the real Corrigan flair.
    • Similarly, the 30 Rock channel left "Thanks, Meatcat!" on the Cheesy Blasters video.
    • The Brooklyn Nine-Nine channel said "Noice" on the Sloppy Jessica video.
    • JG Quintel, the creator of Regular Show, retweeted the Ultimeatum video on Twitter.
    • The official Star Trek Twitter account reacted favorably to the Bunnicorn Pizza video, saying the pizza "looks delicious!"
    • Writer, director and star of Chef Jon Favreau is a fan of the series, and was delighted to find out that the film's pasta algio e olio had been replicated on it. Favreau and Babish have since several times collaborated, including replicating the chocolate molten lava cake from Chef, and Favreau even wrote the foreword for Babish's cookbook.
    • Jon Favreau would return again to give his official explanation of the blue cookies that the Child is seen eating in The Mandalorian. He explained they are basically half of a macaron, and gives Andrew his approval to create an official secondary recipe that is easier for people to make for their kids to snack on.
    • The official Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul Youtube channel left a comment on the Pollos Hermanos video stating "Gus Fring approves."
  • Author's Saving Throw: After getting flack for the Naco, he decided to remake it properly along with The Good Place's Nachos. His new series, Botched by Babish, continues this trend, beginning by re-doing his poutine episode after being criticized for using mozzarella instead of cheese curds in the original.
  • Creator Breakdown: This sadly happened to Andrew in 2022, which he detailed in a Reddit post in October 2023. He became disillusioned from content creation after suffering from burnout and had to be institutionalized after undergoing a mental breakdown, but was assaulted by a fellow patient during his stay. He then spent a month in rehab and avoided recording any new material, but his engagement to his girlfriend deteriorated during this period. All of these events resulted in him taking a step back from content creation and had him focus more on production and writing, which he's been active in for all of 2023. While he is open to resuming the Binging With Babish videos and uploading more frequently in the future, he's massively reduced his output and states that he's currently focusing on expanding the channel.
  • In Memoriam:
    • As a result of the death of John Mahoney, Andrew finally got around to doing the Frasier special, which had this as The Stinger; accompanied by Andrew cracking open Martin Crane's favorite beer and having some more barbecue pudding chips.
      For John Mahoney
      Thanks for making us laugh.
    • The same dedication was made at the end of the "3-Day Potato Salad" episode after the passing of Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants.
    • The first 7 Million Viewer special for The Lord of the Rings is dedicated to Sir Ian Holm — who portrayed old Bilbo Baggins in the series as well as in The Hobbit, and had passed away the previous week — with the dedication appearing at the beginning of the episode.
      Dedicated to Sir Ian Holm
Thank you for the epic journeys.
    • Basics with Babish's 100th episode is memory of Floyd Cardoz, who earlier appeared to show how to cook Indian dishes and who had died as a result of complications from COVID-19. The episode itself contains archived footage of Cardoz showing how to make Indian curries.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Andrew mentions in his first livestream that his other choice for a Reddit handle was Cam Winston and, thus, instead of Binging with Babish, we could just as easily have had Cooking with Cam.
    • He at one point attempted a Frasier episode but had to scrap it due to him — by his own admission — getting "too drunk and rowdy" during production. Andrew eventually came back to and finished it properly in early 2018, after the passing of John Mahoney.
