  • Follow the Leader:
    • K-razy Shoot-Out by CBS Electronics for the Atari 5200 and Atari 8-bit computer family is a clone of this game, minus the Evil Otto figure.
    • Venture also owes a lot of its gameplay to Berzerk, including an analogue to Evil Otto (the invincible wall-ignoring Hallmonsters).
  • Permanent Placeholder: Evil Otto was supposed to be redrawn as something looking more intimidating, but the smiley face used as a placeholder proved to be effective enough.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: Both of the infamous cases of this game killing people have since been disproven—one as the person in question simply didn't exist, the other as he was already on borrowed time before even reaching the arcade. Doesn't stop them from overshadowing the game's history, though...
    • There was one murder tied to the game, however: specifically, person X stole person Y's spot at the machine, Y threatened X, and Y got booted from the arcade. X was given very specific instructions on how to go home; namely to not, under any circumstances, go the same direction as Y, out of fear that he'd violently retaliate. He didn't listen, and got murdered. It could've been any game, and it could've not been at an arcade altogether, but it was and over the controversial Berzerk at that, which made it an easier target than any of the actual causes.
