Trivia / Attacker You!

Go To

  • Follow the Leader: The series owes a lot to Attack No. 1. In Europe, it was even packaged as a canon sequel to the earlier show, despite no other connection between them in Japanese aside from thematic similarities.
  • Foreign Dub as Basis: The French and European Spanish dubs of Attacker You! are based on the Italian dub. Since the Italian dub has a lot of Call Backs to the Italian dub of Attack No. 1, these references were lost on French and Spanish audiences.
  • He Also Did: Watching the opening and the first episode, you'd never guess this was a Knack Productions series. The poor animation quality of some later episodes, though, betrays the show's roots as a production of the same studio that gave the world Chargeman Ken! a decade earlier (though it never gets quite to that show's level of bad).
    • The series shares a character designer (Kiyomu Fukuda) with Attack on Tomorrow!, a 1977 Nippon Animation volleyball show also heavily inspired by (and made by many of the same staff as) Attack No. 1. Like its "sister" shows, Attack on Tomorrow was dubbed and broadcast in Europe.
    • It also shares a screenwriter (Hideki Sonoda) and a voice actress (You's seiyuu, Yuko Kobayashi) with Pokémon (Kobayashi voiced Shigeru, aka Gary Oak).
    • Attacker You! was also the first anime job for composer and producer Shiro Sagisu, who would later become well known for his work with Hideaki Anno on Neon Genesis Evangelion among others.
    • Tenchi Muyo! fans are in for a treat with the Japanese version, hearing two of that series regulars in some of their earliest roles: Washu's voice actress as You and Ayeka's as Eri Takigawa.
  • The Other Darrin: Everyone in the 2008 sequel.
  • Role Reprise: You and Sho (locally, "Mila" and "Shiro") in the Italian dub. In the 2008 sequel they are still played by their original voice actors of the 1984 series. Averted with all the other characters.
