Trivia / Angel S 04 E 06 Spin The Bottle

  • Actor-Inspired Element: It was Amy Acker's idea that Wesley should duct-tape Lorne to the pouffe, or hassock, in the middle of the room. Joss Whedon knew that he wanted Lorne to be in the middle of things, and Lorne had to be able to talk and interact, but he should not be able to move around or influence people except by reasoning with them. Whedon says in the DVD Commentary that he had been baffled what to do with Lorne, until Acker had her suggestion.
  • Corpsing: This episode took much longer to film due to the cast finding it difficult to stop laughing. Amy Acker and Andy Hallett ruined dozens of takes by giggling, and Alexis Denisof and David Boreanaz prolonged shooting for an hour and a half when they couldn't stop laughing. To get the scene, Denisof explains he and Boreanaz resolved not to look at each other; on the DVD Commentary, Joss Whedon points out background shots where Boreanaz is still failing to keep a straight face.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Charisma Carpenter named this as one of her two favourite episodes, because it was rare that everyone got to be in scenes all together.
  • Real Life Writes the Hairstyle: Between the shooting of "Supersymmetry" and this episode, Charisma Carpenter had asked whether she could get a hair cut. Joss Whedon explained that this would start just moments after the previous episode ended, so she should please not do so. But David Boreanaz didn't get the message, and he did go get a trim.
  • Recycled Script: This seems to be the Angel equivalent to Buffy's "Tabula Rasa": both episodes are mostly lighthearted romps involving the main cast having their memories erased (completely on Buffy and back to the age of 17 on Angel) and wacky hijinx ensuing as a result, only to pull a complete 180 in the last act and end things on downbeat note.
  • Throw It In!: One scene had to be restructured so that Angel and Wesley didn't have to look at each other because neither actor could keep a straight face.
