• Both King Carl Gustaf of Sweden and King Felipe of Spain are Struensee's descendants through Louise Augusta.
• Dawson Casting: Alicia Vikander was about twenty-two during filming, playing Princess Caroline, who was only fifteen when she married Christian and was in her late teens during most of the film's action. However, she was the same age or close enough when Caroline dies at the end, the real Caroline having died at the age of only twenty-three. It's also justified, as it would've been extremely problematic to have a teen actress doing steamy love scenes with an adult actor, regardless of what happened in real life.
• Fake Brit: Swedish-born Alicia Vikander plays English princess Caroline Matilda. Though to be fair, she speaks Danish for most of the film anyway.
• Fake Nationality: Mads Mikkelsen, who is Danish, plays Johann Struensee, who was German.
