Pre-70's

  • 1917: Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore is born.
  • 1942: Emily is born. All we know about her maiden name is that it was not Gilmore.
  • 1943: Richard Gilmore is born to Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore (née Gilmore) and Charles Gilmore.
  • 1953: On his tenth birthday, Trix tells her son: "Life is a battle. You either enter it armed or you surrender at the outset." This is also the year Richard knows he wants to be an important person and see opera at La Scala.
  • Cirka 1960-1964: Emily goes to college to study history. Her roommate is named Marie Randall.
  • 1961: Lane's grandmother is outside Korea for the last time prior to her granddaughter's wedding.
  • Cirka 1963: Mrs. Kim is born.
  • Circa 1965: Richard proposes to Emily on a bench on the Yale campus by handing her the box with the ring. Her answer is "Fine!".
  • 1966:
    • Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore writes a letter to her son begging him not to marry Emily.
    • The next day, Emily and Richard get married.
    • Summer: Michel Gerard is born to Gilly Gerard and an unknown father.
  • 1968:
    • Richard starts reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
    • April: Lorelai Victoria Gilmore is born to Emily and Richard Gilmore. Her mother spent fourteen hours in labor.
      • Richard Gilmore makes an investment in Lorelai's name.
  • 1969, July 20: The Gilmores watch the moon landing with Lorelai's cousin Claudia, Richard's grandmother's niece, at Claudia's house.

70's

  • Circa 1971: Lorelai has ear infections. Emily finds the song "Wedding Bell Blues" by Fifth Dimension that makes her stop crying.
  • Circa 1972: Lorelai has a rabbit that she is terrified of, marking the beginning of decades of being a lousy pet-owner.
  • 1972/1973: Emily hires a maid she loves, Daiha.
  • Circa 1973: Lorelai has an ear infection and wishes for something amazing to happen. It snows, and she decides it's a present for her.
  • Circa 1974: Lorelai is sick and her mother makes her toast with banana.
  • Circa 1975: Lorelai burns all her baby pictures, including negatives.
  • Cirka 1976: The latest time at which Lorelai and Christopher can have become friends.
  • Circa 1978: Lorelai and Christopher put on a show playing and singing Suppertime from You're A Good Man Charlie Brown.

80's

  • Cirka 1980: Mrs. Kim's brother Joe is born.
  • 1980/1981
    • Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore comes to America to visit her son's family.
  • April 1981: Lorelai and Richard watch Grease and An Unmarried Woman at the movies on her birthday.
  • Circa 1983:
    • Logan Huntzberger is born.
    • So is Doyle McMaster.
    • Elizabeth "Libby" Doty is born to George Edward Doty IV and Eleanor Doty.
  • 1983:
    • Lorelai is invited to the homecoming dance. This makes her so happy that she gives all the peas on her dinner plate voices. Emily sends her to her room.
    • Lorelai spills wine on the carpet and Emily will hold a grudge about it for at least twenty years.
    • Richard walks in on Lorelai with a boy in the pool house and thinks it's her losing her virginity, but he's wrong. Lorelai will tell tell the story at his funeral thirty years later after drinking her weight in single malt scotch.
  • 1984
    • Early:
      • January: Lorelai gets pregnant with classmate Christopher Hayden.
      • Lane Kim, also known as Hyun Yung, is born to Korean-American Seventh Day Adventists.
    • Spring:
    • Chris gets Lorelai Pat Benatar concert tickets for her birthday. She looks in his wallet beforehand so she has to act surprised.
    • Lorelai realizes she's pregnant when finding herself unable to zip up her dress when she has to sit for her portrait.
    • October 13: Lorelai Leigh "Rory" Gilmore is born to a sixteen-year-old Lorelai Gilmore, who spends 26 hours in labor.
    • Unknown:
      • Paris Eustace Geller, Madeline Lynn, Louise Grant, Brad Langford, Francine Jarvis, Tristan DuGray, and various other students in Rory's year are born.
      • Jess Mariano is born to Liz Danes and Jim Mariano. Jimmy leaves them almost immediately.
  • 1984/1985: Rory thinks she discovered U2.
  • 1985
    • December: Lorelai leaves home with Rory and finds work and a home in a small town about an hour away.

    • Rory learns the State capitals.
    • Lorelai gets Rory to step on wet grass.

    • Rory memorizes the periodic table of elements.
    • Rory breaks an antique rose-painted china cup that belongs to Mia.

1990s

  • October 13 1990: Rory's birthday party is outer space-themed.
  • October 13 1991: Rory's birthday party is a fiesta with a piñata.
  • October 31 1991: Rory wears a winged turtle costume to a Halloween party.
  • 1992: Sookie's friend Joe, who goes to culinary school with her, develops a crush on her.
  • October 13 1992: Rory's birthday party is a teddy bear tea party. The police show up.
  • April 1993: April Nardini is born in Woodbridge to Anna Nardini, unbeknownst to her father Lucas Danes.
  • 1993/1994: Rory learns to ride a bike, and vows never to ride a bike again.
  • Circa 1994:
    • Rory knows how to discuss Schopenhauer and Nietzsche.
    • Rory tries to read The Fountainhead, but it's over her head.
    • Faye Wellington and Art Brush fall in love. It ends in disaster.
    • Rory discovers U2, and her parents tease her about it.
  • 1995:
    • Sookie and Lorelai become friends.
    • Lane writes Rory a letter in class, which Rory will keep until Lane's wedding day.
  • 1995/1996: On a school trip to Mark Twain's house, Lindsay Lister buys Rory a fridge magnet and refuses to let Rory pay her back.
  • 1996:
    • Rory's birthday this year is Huckleberry Finn-themed. They go ice-skating in Central Park wearing Russian ushankas.
    • Paris Geller has her Bat Mitzvah in a dress with menorahs on it.
    • Luke starts falling for Lorelai, or so he will claim eight years later.
  • 1997:
    • Lorelai makes a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. She neglects to bring back a pen and ink set for Kirk, even though she promised.
    • At a book fair, Lorelai chews out a man for being stingy. She has no memory of it a few years later, but it made an impression on Debbie Fincher, the mother of a girl named Kathy who went to school with Rory at Stars Hollow High.
    • Rory and Lorelai have a great taffy binge.
    • Rory's birthday this year is make-up and Molly Ringwald-themed.
    • Lorelai breaks her leg during a yoga class.
  • 1998:
    • Lorelai and Sookie make fun of the kid playing Romeo in a school play, specifically his big ears. They would have gotten away with it, too, if his parents hadn't been sitting right behind them.
    • Rory and Lane do the macarena for hours and hours, which Rory will later claim they did ironically.
    • Rory's birthday party is a scavenger hunt.
    • Sookie makes octopus ice cream. It's a disaster.
  • 1999:
    • A man, who is probably her third husband, leaves Liz Danes.
    • Lorelai promises to put in a good word for Kirk as a batter boy at Al's Pancake World. She failed to deliver.
    • Lorelai and Rory enjoy a hot-dog binge at a carnival.
    • August: Rory starts her freshman year of high school at Stars Hollow High
  • 1999/2000: Rory succeeds at reading The Fountainhead.

The Show

2000

  • Unknown:
    • Lorelai promises to teach Kirk how to swim, but never does.
  • August:
    • Rory starts her sophomore year at Stars Hollow high.
  • September:
    • Rory is accepted to prep school Chilton and transfers from Stars Hollow High.
    • The two Lorelais reconnect with the (grand)parents Emily and Richard Gilmore.
    • Rory meets Dean on her last day at Stars Hollow High.
    • Rory studies hard for a test on Shakespeare.
    • Rory drives her mother's car to school and a deer runs into the side of the car at a three-way stop.
  • October:
    • Cinnamon, Babette and Morey's cat, dies and they all throw her a wake.
    • 13: Rory turns sixteen and Emily throws her a party inviting her Chilton schoolmates.
    • 14: Lorelai throws Rory a birthday party inviting all their Stars Hollow friends. Dean gives Rory a bracelet. This day is the start of their relationship, he will claim on Founder's day.
  • November
    • Rory gets kissed by Dean in the store where he works.
    • Rory accidentally shoplifts corn starch.
    • Lorelai accidentally arranges their first date by inviting Dean to movie night.
  • December:
    • A Blizzard hits Hartford County, Connecticut. Rory spends the night at her grandparents', not daring to brave the icy roads. Stars Hollow still reenacts the traditional scene from the Civil War.
    • Richard has his first heart attack at Christmas dinner, held two weeks before Christmas.

2001

  • Unknown:
    • Lorelai promises to attend Kirk's birthday party, but doesn't.
  • Winter:
    • Parents' day at Chilton. Paris witnesses Max Medina and Lorelai Gilmore kissing after failing to break up. Sookie asks Jackson out for the first time.
    • Sookie and Jackson go on a date with Lorelai and Jackson's cousin Rune while Rory and Dean go on a date with Lane and Dean's friend Todd.
    • Sookie and Lorelai go to a Bangles concert in New York, as well as Rory and Paris and Paris's two friends, Madeline and Louise.
    • Rory kittensits Babette's new kitten Apricot while Lorelai birdsits Rory's biology project Stella (not her real name).
    • Christopher visits Stars Hollow for the first time.
    • January 14: Rory and Dean break up on their three-month anniversary.
    • Rory takes Lane to a Chilton party where Lane meets a Korean-American boy named Henry.
    • Sookie has a food funk of legendary proportions after trying to make pigeons á la nicoise.

  • Spring:
    • Richard's mother Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore visits her son.
    • Luke's ex Rachel returns to Stars Hollow and they reconcile. Emily visits the Independence inn.
    • Lorelai and Max get back together.
    • Rachel leaves again.
    • March? 6: Rory and Dean get back together.
    • Max proposes to Lorelai.

    • Lorelai accepts Max's proposal.
    • Rory attends summer school. She also takes on charity work building houses for homeless people.
    • Lorelai runs away from the wedding.
    • Lorelai and Rory go on a roadtrip and visit Harvard.

  • Fall:
    • Rory starts her Junior year at Chilton.
    • Luke's sister Liz Danes sends her seventeen-year-old son Jess Mariano to live with his uncle, Luke.
    • Jess takes an interest in Rory after finding out she shares his love of reading.
    • Lorelai notices that her parents are on bad terms.
    • Lorelai alledgedly has an argument with her partner at the dance marathon and they end up disqualified.
    • Rory attends a coming out ball as one of the debutantes.
    • Lorelai learns that Richard is angry because he's being phased out of his company.
    • Christopher reveals that he has a girlfriend named Sherry.
    • Rory accidentally sits with a secret sorority named "the Puffs" at lunch and nearly gets "puffed" along with Paris, but the initiation ceremony is interrupted by headmaster Charleston who does not approve of people using his office in the middle of the night.
    • The Booster club arranges a fashion event at the Independence inn. Lorelai enlists Emily to walk down the catwalk with her.

  • Winter:
    • Rory sits for a painting.
    • Mia, owner of the Independence inn, visits Stars Hollow.
    • Rory plays Juliet in a project for her Shakespeare class. Paris ends up playing Romeo.
    • Richard retires right before Christmas. He neglects to inform his wife and the rest of his family.

2002

  • Winter
    • The Bracebridge dinner takes place at the Independence inn, without the Bracebridge group. Jess sabotages the snowman contest's clear winner so Rory and Lorelai's snowman will win.
    • The Gilmore house gets termites.
    • Rory and Paris get their PSAT scores.
    • Sookie and Jackson are together.
    • Richard visits Stars Hollow.
    • Paris tries to dig up some dirt on Stars Hollow.
    • Stars Hollow decides to put all the rental movies that aren't rated G behind a curtain. They name it "the Rory curtain" because Rory accidentally got that ball rolling by commenting that Kirk should put a video with a semi-naked lady on the cover on a higher shelf.

  • Spring:
    • The annual picnic basket auction takes place in Stars Hollow. Rory loses the bracelet Dean gave her for her sixteenth birthday. Jess finds it and keeps it.
    • Christopher introduces his girlfriend Sherry to Rory and Lorelai.
    • Rory discovers that she's lost the bracelet Dean gave her for her sixteenth birthday.
    • Jess returns the bracelet Dean gave Rory for her sixteenth birthday.
    • Emily tricks Lorelai into going to a spa with her.
    • Louie Danes, Lukes uncle, dies in his home in Florida. He is shipped to Connecticut to be buried in Stars Hollow.
    • Rory's project for business class inspires Richard to un-retire.
    • Michel's mother Gilly visits her son.
    • Lorelai complains about the yearly showing of The Yearling.
    • Rory tutors Jess.
    • Rory and Jess get in a car accident where Rory breaks her arm.
    • Jess moves back to New York.
    • Richard opens his new consulting business.

  • May/June:
    • Lorelai graduates from business school. Rory goes to New York because she misses Jess and misses Lorelai's graduation.
    • Rory runs for class vice president alongside Paris.
    • Sookie and Jackson get married.
    • Sherrie informs Chris about her pregnancy.
    • Rory leaves for Washington D.C. with Paris after they're elected class president and vice president.

  • Summer
    • Paris goes on a date with Jamie in D.C.
    • Rory returns to Connecticut.
    • Rory discovers that Jess is seeing a girl named Shane.

  • Fall
    • Rory starts her senior year of high school.
    • Sherrie throws herself a baby shower and invites Rory and Lorelai.
    • Stars Hollow arranges a dance marathon. Dean breaks up with Rory. Jess breaks up with Shane. Rory and Jess effectively get together by admitting their feelings for each other. Kirk wins the marathon.
    • Kirk's dance trophy gets stolen.
    • Rory and Lorelai join Richard and Emily on a trip to Yale. Richard arranges for Rory to speak to the dean without telling her first.
    • Kirk gets a cat.
    • The Gilmore Girls prove themselves capable of eating four Thanksgiving dinners in one evening.

2003

  • Winter:
    • Richard Gilmore celebrates his sixtieth birthday.
    • Emily gets sued by a maid she fired.
    • The Kims arrange a wedding for a relative.
    • Georgia "Gigi" Tinsdale Hayden is born.
    • Miss Patty puts on a one-woman show, a test-run of which has Rory and Dean next to each other in the audience.
    • Emily invites Rory's new boyfriend Jess to Friday night dinner. Jess gets assaulted by a swan earlier that Friday.
    • Lorelai and Alex go on a double date with Sookie and Jackson to see a play in New York.

  • Spring
    • The Doose family has a reunion.
    • Trix visits the Gilmore house.
    • Stars Hollow plays ice hockey semi-finals against Woodbridge.
    • Rory learns Dean is dating Lindsay Lister.
    • Emily discovers that Trix has a boyfriend.
    • Brad returns to Chilton.
    • Sookie discovers she is pregnant. Her only evidence is that her sense of taste is off, but it is accurate.
    • Rory and Paris both win the speech contest for the bicentennial.
    • Rory receives acceptance letters from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.
    • Paris receives a rejection letter from Harvard and takes it very hard. Later events indicate that she receives acceptance letters from Yale and Princeton.
    • There's a fire at the Independence inn and it has to close down.
    • Lorelai turns thirty-five. Rory makes her the biggest pizza in the tri-county area for the occasion.
    • Luke meets Nicole's parents.
    • Paris gets her nose pierced at a mall.
    • Lorelai pays back the money she owes her parents for Chilton with money from an investment made in her name many years ago.
    • Rory goes to a house party thrown by a kid whose parents are out of town, who booked Lane's band for the occasion. Jess and Dean fight.
    • Jess's father visits Stars Hollow
    • Dean Forrester proposes to Lindsay Ann Lister. She accepts.
    • Fran dies.
    • Jess leaves Stars Hollow for Los Angeles.
    • Rory graduates from high school. She gives the valedictorian speech.

  • Summer
    • Lorelai and Rory go backpacking through Europe.
    • Luke goes on a cruise with Nicole where they get married. They also get forced to listen to a guy playing music on bottles.
    • The moment the ship lands, Luke and Nicole file for divorce.

  • Fall
    • Rory starts her freshman year at college.
    • Lorelai and Sookie start a catering company.
    • Dean and Lindsay get married.
    • Stars Hollow holds the Festival of Living Art.
    • Lorelai starts dating Jason "Digger" Stiles.
    • Sookie gives birth to her and Jackson's first child.

2004

  • Spring
    • Lorelai keeps keeping her relationship with Jason secret.
    • Paris and Rory go to Florida with Glenn and Janet for spring break. They run into Madeline and Louise.
    • Luke discovers that Nicole is having an affair. He gets himself arrested beating up the man's car.
    • Emily's friends Melinda, "Sweetie" among friends, dies.
    • Lorelai "Trix" Gilmore dies. Her daughter-in-law Emily discovers that Trix never wanted her to marry into the family. Lorelai discovers to her horror that her paternal grandparents were second cousins.
    • The eggs Kirk his for Easter weren't all found, so two weeks later the whole town stinks.
    • Jason's father Floyd spills the beans on Jason and Lorelai's secret relationship, causing Richard to feel betrayed and conspire with Floyd to push Jason out.
    • Luke files for divorce.
    • Lane discovers that her mother has a Korean exchange student named Kyon living in her old bedroom.
    • Emily asks for a separation, finding the whole thing with Trix not wanting her in the family along with the possible alienation of Lorelai through Richard's conspiring with Floyd against Jason to be too much.
    • Lorelai and Rory find out that Emily and Richard are separated by figuring out that Emily lives in a hotel.
    • The Dragonfly inn opens.
    • Lorelai and Luke become and item.
    • Rory loses her virginity to Dean Forrester.

  • Summer
    • Rory spends her summer vacation in Rome with her grandmother.
    • Asher Fleming dies of a heart attack while lecturing about Shakespeare in Oxford.

  • Fall
    • Rory starts her sophomore year at college.
    • Rory dates Dean after his wife kicks him out.
    • Jackson runs for town selectman and wins.
    • Richard finishes The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
    • Sookie announces her second pregnancy.

  • Winter
    • Emily and Richard find a dog and bond over looking after it until they find its owner.
    • Emily tries dating.

2005

  • Winter
    • Sookie has a major food funk after a panna cotta experiment.
    • Rory looks after a Chilton student named Anna Fairchild.
    • Stars Hollow has found that a British soldier did in fact pass through the town on that fateful night they commemorate each year, and includes it in the reenactment.
    • Emily asks Richard to end the separation.
    • Emily and Richard renew their vows. In the process they break up Luke and Lorelai. Rory and Logan enter an open relationship.

  • Spring:
    • Luke and Lorelai get back together.
    • Rory has a brief internship at a newspaper.
    • Sookie has a food funk due to a Swiss chard á la polonaise.
    • Rory and Logan steal a boat.

  • Summer:
    • June 3rd: Rory is sentenced to 300 hours of community service, despite originally reaching a plea agreement.
    • Rory moves in with her grandparents, choosing not to go back to Yale. She joins the DAR.

  • Fall
    • Sookie and Jackson's children get baptised with the two Lorelais for godparents.

  • November/December:
    • Lorelai makes Michel dogsit Paul Anka, whereupon he traumatizes Michel's two poofs and somehow breaks into a closet where he poops in Michel's Prada loafers.
    • Jess visits Hartford and shows Rory a book he wrote.
    • Logan meets Jess and has an argument with Rory, resulting in what he thinks is a break-up but she thinks is just a relationship break.
    • Rory goes back to Yale, which allows her to pick up in the middle of her junior year.
    • Rory gets a job at the place she interned at and makes up with her mother.
    • Logan tries to rebound with several of his sister's friends.

2006

  • February
    • 3rd: Rory gets voted in as editor of Yale Daily News and is evicted from Paris's apartment. Rory moves in with Logan Huntzberger.
    • 11th: Lorelai and Luke go to Martha's Vineyard to spend Valentine's weekend with Rory and Logan.
    • 12th: Luke and the Lorelais accompany Logan to the local gym. Logan's father shows up and takes him away on a business trip.

  • Spring
    • Honor Huntzberger gets married to Josh. As part of the bridal party Rory learns that several of the bridesmaids slept with Logan while she and Logan were on a break.
    • Rory moves back in with Paris, who has broken up with Doyle.
    • Doyle and Paris make up and Rory moves back in with Logan on the same night she moves out.
    • Zach van Derbig proposes to Lane Kim.
    • Luke chaperone's April's math club on a trip to Philadelphia. They visit Jess who lives and works there.
    • Rory happens to visit Jess's work while Luke and April are there.
    • Logan, Robert, Finn, and Collin all basejump off a cliff in Costa Rica. Logan's parachute doesn't fully open and he is airlifted back to New York.
    • Jackson finds that former employees of his planted marijuana on his land.
    • Emily has LASIK surgery which goes badly.
    • Liz Danes accidentally announces her second pregnancy when she tries to announce it intentionally, this one by her husband TJ.
    • An interview with Mitchum Huntzberger is published in which he takes credit for Rory's achievements in an underhanded way.
    • Logan Huntzberger leaves the country to work for his father in London for a year.
    • Lorelai gives Luke an ultimatum, and they break up.

  • Fall
    • Rory spends days pondering the meaning of a gift of a model rocket that Logan lefft her when he left for London.
    • Rory starts her senior year at Yale.
    • Michel forces Lorelai to take him to a cotillion as payback for the Prada loafers Paul Anka ruined.
    • Rory meets and befriends art majors Lucy and Olivia at an art gallery.
    • Sherrie wants Gigi back in her life, which means she'll have to fly to France, and Lorelai and Christopher accompany her on the trip.
    • Lorelai Gilmore marries Christopher Hayden in Paris.

  • Winter
    • Lucy celebrates her 21st birthday.
    • Liz gives birth to her and TJ's daughter and names her Doula for her doula.
    • Anna Nardini decides to move to a State on the Mexico border to look after her sick mother.
    • Luke hires a lawyer to secure his parental rights.
    • Rory spends Christmas in London with Logan.

2007

  • Winter:
    • Rory comes home from England.
    • The Gilmore girls celebrate a belated Christmas.
    • Richard has a second heart attack while giving a lecture at Yale.
    • Lorelai and Christopher separate.
    • Sookie discovers that she's pregnant for the third time.
    • Michel's dog Chin-Chin dies. This dog has never been seen on screen, unlike his still-living dog Paw-Paw.

  • Spring:
    • Logan finds himself knee-deep in lawsuits after buying a patent from someone who doesn't really own it.
    • Lorelai and Rory throw Lane a baby shower.
    • Mia gets married in North Carolina.
    • Lane van Gerbig gives birth to twin boys Steve and Kwan.
    • Stars Hollow arranges a spring fling with a hay bale maze.
    • Lorelai's car breaks down.
    • Logan proposes to Rory.
    • Rory graduates from Yale
    • Rory turns down Logan's proposal.
    • Rory gets a job reporting on Obama's presidential campaign for an online newspaper
    • Stars Hollow throws Rory a Bon Voyage party.
    • Luke and Lorelai get back together.

2010-11

  • Michel Gerard marries a man named Frederick.

2014

  • ~January
    • Rory gets a boyfriend. His first name is Paul, and his last name is very close to "Anka".

2015

  • ~January
    • Sookie takes a six-month sabbatical to clear her head and explore new recipes. She stays gone for a year and a half.
  • August/September:
    • Richard Gilmore dies of a heart attack.
    • Richard Gilmore's funeral takes place. Lorelai drinks a lot of scotch and places her foot firmly in her mouth, leading to a four-month ice-front with her mother.

2016

  • Winter:
    • Rory visits Lorelai and introduces Paul for the severalth time.
    • Luke and Lorelai discuss whether to have children by surrogate.
    • Lorelai agrees to go to therapy with her mother.

  • Spring:
    • Rory goes to a reunion/alumni gathering at Chilton.
    • Lorelai and Rory explore why people in New York stand in line for everything.
    • Rory has a one-night stand with a wookie-cosplayer.

  • Summer:
    • Rory gets pregnant.
    • Taylor Doose produces a stage musical.

  • Fall:
    • Lorelai tries to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, but changes her mind.
    • Luke and Lorelai get married.
    • Rory announces her pregnancy.
