They Wasted A Perfectly Good Plot / The Fairly OddParents!

Go To

  • "The Boy Who Would Be Queen" revealed that Trixie has a tomboy side, and hides it because she's afraid of what others would think of her if anyone found out. What could've been an interesting Story Arc about Trixie coming to terms with herself was abandoned in favor of her retaining her Alpha Bitch status. It was never mentioned again after that episode, and, thanks to Trixie disappearing from the show after her VA left the series, never will.
  • Some fans felt disappointed that Veronica's secret crush on Timmy was not developed further beyond of "Information Stupor Highway" (and briefly in "Mind Over Magic") and this sub-plot wasn't referenced or supported since Season 4.
  • It was implied that Vicky had some kind of a Freudian Excuse in "Snow Bound" on why she acts the way she does. Unfortunately, it was never explored beyond that.
  • The episode "Fairy Idol" shows Norm becoming a Fairy Godparent and being assigned to Chester. Chester learning about Fairy Godparents could be interesting Character Development for him, with him potentially becoming an Ascended Extra. Instead, Chester wishes to have never met Norm after feeling used and wipes everyone's memories, including his own. Him wishing for Cosmo and Wanda to become Timmy's godparents again would've fixed the conflict of the episode while ignoring Status Quo Is God. Not to mention that Chester could keep Norm as his slave, which is probably a more fitting punishment for his actions.
  • Throughout the show, there was a Running Gag of Timmy's dad's hatred of the Dinklebergs, sometimes for the pettiest reasons, which apparently lasted since his childhood. Sadly, those mentioned origins were never explored.
  • "When Losers Attack", the Villain Team-Up episode in Season 8 involving Vicky, Crocker, Foop, and Dark Laser, missed a very good opportunity to bring back some of the show's previous antagonists, such as Francis, Remy, Bender, Norm, the Pixies, and even Foop's parents, Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda. Instead, the episode uses the only villains that have any sort of prominence throughout the later seasons.
  • Crocker in the Season 9 episode "Fairly Old Parent"; in this episode, Crocker's mother gets Poof as a fairy godparent, and this could put Crocker in an interesting role where he tries to capture a fairy now that one's in his house consistently - however, when Wanda acknowledges this, Jorgen dismisses him as "not being too much of a problem"; Crocker is barely prominent in the episode (which is a rarity for most Season 9 episodes), and he never finds out that Poof was always in his house.
  • "Chloe Rules!" begins with a scene where Crocker is choosing the classroom hall monitor. He picks his nephew, Kevin, over Chloe, both out of favoritism and to teach her that life isn't always fair. This seems like it could set up a rivalry between Kevin or Crocker and Chloe, but Timmy simply wishes that Chloe had the position. Kevin is abruptly dropped from the episode, and Crocker's later appearance doesn't have anything to do with this moment.
