They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character / Dragon Ball Multiverse

Go To

Dragon Ball Multiverse has lots of characters, so it's no surprise many of them end up being underused or wasted.

  • Many think the main universe, U18, fell into this since they get little spotlight despite them supposedly being the 'canonical' universe. In particular are Uub, Goten, and Trunks, who get very little development despite being different from their GT counterparts.
  • Frieza and Cooler are frequently killed in special chapters and their tournament versions have had no increase in power. Both are also easily and unceremoniously killed by Piccolo during the Majin rebellion.
  • The U19 Tech Warriors are the most unique fighters present in the whole tournament with a compelling backstory... that's only revealed after all of them are eliminated in humiliating ways. Thankfully, U19 has its story told in novel/fan fiction form that is on the DBM site. Not only that, the warriors Nedwook and Phipsil who weren't in the tournament get a chance to shine during Babidi's coup. There, they prove themselves to be formidable fighters who manage to take out many of Babidi's heavy hitters such as Dabura, Kakarot and King Piccolo.
  • U9 was also sold short. This is the universe were the only defenders Earth had were Yamcha, Krillen, Tien and other humans. They all have nifty abilities, Yamcha is an android, and they all had to contend with the likes of Cooler. They've also been knocked out of the tournament and their role in the Majin rebellion is minimal at best.
  • The girls from U6. Fans feel they are unnecessary since their backstory hasn't been explored yet nor have their characters made any impact on the tournament besides being fodder for stronger characters. Many felt U6 special should have told the girls' story instead of showing Bojack and his gang killing the Z-fighters.
  • While U16 as a whole is a Spotlight-Stealing Squad, that universe's version of Piccolo seemed to only exist to be Bra's tailor. Pan from the same universe also doesn't get much focus since she dies to Bojack very early on, only getting revived at the end of the second round and only appears to adore Bra, which is a shame since she's one of the few characters from that universe aside from Gohan who isn't a jerk.
  • U3 Raichi was considered to be a massive improvement over his canonical counterpart, being a fleshed-out and sympathetic Anti-Hero instead of a cliched mad scientist. His fight with Gast was hoped to be not only exciting, but also heartfelt as it was a duel between two opposing ideals: revenge (Raichi) and peace (Gast). Instead, Raichi gets killed off unceremoniously and his trump card (Hatchiyack) lasts only a few pages before being destroyed in one shot by Gast. Worst of all, apparently Raichi was a ghost as well, and so it's likely he was permanently killed. What was the point of improving his character so much just to have him get killed off without any closure?
    • Actually that last part is partially averted. Raichi was brought back thanks to the Dragonballs, but dragged back to U3 with Tapion since they both lost their fights. There is even a Sequel Hook for him: One disgruntled Vargas lets slip where Bardock will be hiding in U3.
  • U13 Raditz gets more love than most characters, but he is again overshadowed by his brother in this universe. This doesn't make a lot of sense in U13, where he and his brother love each other and train together and learn from each other. Out of all the possible Raditz of the multiverse, this one is the most likely to go SSJ. This may yet be fixed if he is successful in getting the Elder Kai's power upgrade.
  • The androids also fall into this as they both get very little screen time before 18 is deactivated and 17 killed in the Majin rebellion.
