Barrel Rolls and Broken Dreams is a stage adaptation of the video game Star Fox 64 performed by students at Hampshire College, and posted on YouTube. It's an Affectionate Parody, making all sorts of fun of the quirky characters and hammy dialogue of the game. Features an a cappella quartet singing the game's music. The play adheres mostly to the game's plot, with the notable omission of Star Wolf, and with the addition of a few subplots, all for the purpose of comedic affect. It got attention from Nintendo Power.

Tropes present in this work include:

  • Adaptation Distillation:
    • The most notable are the omissions of Star Wolf and Bill Grey, along with a few planets. The biggest surprise, though, is that Peppy is actually Killed Off for Real, with Katt Monroe replacing him among the others as they run in the ending.
    • It's actually not really much of a "distillation" since there are seven missions, the same as any one playthrough of the game would have, but the planets chosen can't possibly match any real run because there are two areas each from the potential 4th and 5th missions and none from the 3rd or 6th.
      • However, elements of Titania (namely, rescuing Slippy) have been blended into Macbeth.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: ROB is just as mean to Slippy as everyone else.
  • Watch It Stoned: Averted. Alcohol makes Peppy hallucinate, and cocaine makes Falco even more bipolar.
  • Large Ham: General Pepper, and any other character played by that actor.
  • The Woobie: In-universe. The amount of "aws" from the audience towards Slippy is astounding.
