Tearjerker / The Angel of The Owl House

Go To

  • Luz in this AU is notably more affected by her lack of friends in the Human Realm, as her attempts at spreading order and helping people have all backfired on her.
  • Chapter 2 has Eda and King try to spike Luz with Tearful Tonic so they can use her angelic tears to try and cure the Owl Beast curse and restore King to his "former glory", respectively. Unfortunately, they keep missing her and hit other people, causing Luz to think that she was somehow upsetting people. And of course, it was all unnecessary, since if they had explained why they had wanted the tears, Luz would have given them to them right away.
  • When Luz is sent to the Detention track, she has an emotional breakdown for screwing up on her first day at Hexside, with Bump considering suggesting to Eda that Luz needs therapy.
  • Camila left the Divine Realm not because she wanted to become a Missionary Angel, but she was born to fulfill a specific role in Crest Kindness, so they wouldn't let her go without giving birth to a replacement, and started pressuring her when she refused.
  • Viney was severely bullied as a kid for her Cait Sith heritage, to the point that the only reason Jerbo and Barcus know is because she got overheated from a potion the latter made once.
  • Darius clearly is rather dismissive of Skara once she joins the rebellion, much to her frustration.
  • Alador's reaction when he realizes that his children are genuinely worried that he'd try and hurt them.
  • Luz has a panic attack when she thinks that Camila might make her come back to Earth permanently.
  • During Palisman adoption day, there's a Palisman that the Bat Queen thinks would be a perfect fit for Matt, but he just lost his witch a few years ago and he's still too hurt to try again yet.
  • We see more of the Owl Beast's backstory here, and it's heartbreaking. It was thrown out of the group for being a runt by the alpha, AKA their mother, found a mate, only for it to starve to death despite their best efforts to find food for it, the pair's eggs following soon after in the cold, and then of course it was chased down and hunted by an Archivist like in canon.
  • Pebbles used to be Steve's Palisman, but he broke the bond to keep Belos from claiming him when he joined the Emperor's Coven, and while Steve's happy to see Pebbles bond with Matt, you can tell it stirs up some nostalgia.
  • When Luz reverses Luna's petrification, thanks to her disorientation and some well-meaning but poorly-worded comments by Hooty, she thinks that Mason murdered her son Talis and her husband, and tries to kill him to avenge them. Mason is Talis, and she's horrified to realize that she was trying to kill her own son once she's calmed down.
  • The Titan arm island that the CATTs build their base on is implied, and later confirmed, to be from King's mother. King doesn't take the news very well, as expected, though he does his best to focus on the fact that her spirit is still around.
  • Lucy/Silver Sentinel starts running out of magic after the Eclipse Lake battle, and Hunter is seriously worried.
  • Lucy's new Oracle spirit managed to snag the portal key from Luz before they fled, so now Luz is cut off from her mother.
  • Even after getting the portal notes, Luz is not taking being separated from her mother due to the loss of the original portal well. Her family has to basically force her to take a day off with Raine because she's pushing herself so hard.
  • Lucy tries to warn the Hexside students at HECK not to win, but Willow gets too focused on fighting Hunter and wins, so then they learn that they'll be forced into the Emperor's Coven.
  • Luz turns out to have been feeling guilty that her mother couldn't heal her father because she kept using blessings on her.
  • The reason that the Wailing Star makes the books in the Bonesborough library come to life? It's the heart of King's mother, and her sorrow at not being able to teach her son the oral traditions of the Titans, and its proximity to a Wellspring, affects the books.
  • Odalia turns out to have manipulated Alador and his parents against each other, making them each believe that they'd disowned each other.
  • Lucy arguably takes the fact that she's a Grimwalker even worse than Hunter does, going almost completely catatonic.
  • Luz learning that her mother Camila really was Cassiel... from Belos. And Darius and Eberwolf learn that Manny, their friend and Luz's father, is dead.
  • Hunter repressing his own inner turmoil to try and help his sister, then breaking down in Gus's arms once the latter helps him break through the dam.
  • Camila turns out to have been in a relationship with not only Manny, but the last Golden Guard Michael as well, only to lose them both when Vitimir sold them out to Belos, Manny's sickness turning out to be the result of a poison that Vitimir inflicted on him.
  • Belos tricks the Collector into putting the Hexsquad into individual Lotus-Eater Machine illusions, formed from their own guilt over past mistakes.
