Unmarked spoilers ahead

  • The flashback to Hux's childhood, where he's harshly berated by his father and mocked by Admiral Brooks after accidentally dropping a tray of glasses. Hux desperately apologizes and promises to clean it up. When Brooks says he should lick it up so as not to waste it, Hux looks to his father who remains silent. Hux, unsure of what to do to earn Brendol's approval, actually gets down on his knees to lick up the spilt drink, until his father yanks him up and yells at him, while Brooks laughs. It's incredibly sad seeing Hux as a frightened young boy, desperate to please his father, being humiliated and verbally torn down by an authority figure and receiving no help from his parent even when he asks for it. And it's even sadder considering that the abuse heaped on Hux helped shaped him into the sadistic, power-hungry fanatic he is by the Sequel Trilogy.
    • Later in the issue, Hux and Kylo Ren finds themselves stranded in an unknown planet after their ship is sabotaged. There, they encounter Bylsma, a former Alderaan Imperial Guard who has survived the destruction of his former planet and had secluded himself for decades, not daring to reach out to anyone else, fearing the loss of another home. Hux managed to win Bylsma's trust by presenting Kylo Ren as the son of Alderaan's Princess Leia, and used Bylsma's communications array to call for help. The "help" arrives in the form of Phasma and a group of Stormtroopers, who proceed to kill Bylsma's animal companions and disable his communications array. As Hux and his party begin to leave, the general announces his intention to use Bylsma's new planet as a target practice for Starkiller Base. Bylsma's utterly bewildered look as he watches this betrayal is heartbreaking, to say the least.
  • Rey telling Leia how exactly Han died. She has tears streaming down her face and thinks to herself that losing Han feels like she's been abandoned all over again. Leia doesn't cry but is clearly mournful. Made even more tearjerkery by the fact that when Rey states that Han faced Kylo Ren alone, Leia gently corrects her that Han was actually trying to talk to their son. It does not help that it's accompanied by images of Han's final moments between Rey and Leia, giving the impression that Rey is remembering it all as she saw it happen, while Leia is imagining it based on what Rey tells her.
  • Paige and Rose finding out that Hays Minor has been destroyed by the First Order. The planet didn't have much, but it was still their home. Their parents were also killed, after the sisters promised to return for them and their parents promised to be there waiting. The whole reason the Tico sisters joined the Resistance in the first place was to try and save their world and people, but then the First Order "ripped it apart" just for some extra resources. They're so distraught they're even prepared to get themselves killed blowing up the biggest First Order target they can find for revenge, though luckily Leia is able to talk them out of it. And then we get to be reminded about Alderaan all over again. It retroactively makes Rose's first scene in The Last Jedi worse too, because after Paige is killed Rose literally has no one left from her family and homeworld.
