Tear Jerker / Rick and The Loud House

Go To

Spoilers Off applies to all Tear Jerker pages, so all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

Similar to how the gore and frightening imagery from Rick & Morty is kept among the world of The Loud House, so are the former’s more tragic and depressing elements.

General

  • Lynn is perhaps the fic's biggest woobie (of the Jerkass Woobie variety) after Rick (also of that variety). She rarely gets to go on adventures with Rick, then Lynner Takes the Stone shows that she's upset over Lincoln and herself growing apart. Then she gets her eye cut, runs away and lives as a space vagrant for three months, misses two holidays with her family, and narrowly avoids an evening with King Jellybean. All the while, she keeps thinking of everyone she left behind and what she's been through. She's cocky, rowdy and overly superstitious, but she's still only 13.
    • Even after she returns, things don't get better for her. At the end of Racing Hearts, Lynn's teammates leave her behind for her bad attitude after they lose the contest. Lynn storms off and tries to pretend she's better off without them, but can't stop herself from crying.
    • Then in One Crew Over the Crew Coo's Lynn, Rick orchestrates an adventure just to burn Lynn out on ever wanting to join him on any future adventures. Part of it was for her own good, given what happened last time she joined him, but it still stings. Especially when she can't bring herself to hang out with Lincoln like she wanted, and goes to her room to cry and yell at Lucy to leave her alone.

Lawnmower Dog

  • While she was rude to Lincoln and broke his game, it's a little hard to see Lori's dream falling apart all around her. She begins to panic as the dream versions of her siblings ignore her. Even worse, this episode is partly based off Get the Message, where Lincoln calls her the worst sister ever. In the show, Lori only got mad at Lincoln. Here, after her dream turned into a nightmare, she's sobbing over it. Lori's quote, taken from the show, takes on a different tone here.
Lori: You think I enjoy this? Unfortunately, I'm the only one who can keep this house from ending up in a pile of rubble!

Heavy Meddling With The Anatomy

  • When Lincoln comes home from school, he sees that Lana is still upset over Charles leaving in the previous chapter.

L is for Love Potion

  • Everything about Rick and the Loud siblings moving out of their universe after the absolute backfire of Rick's love potion. The Loud siblings lose their parents, Lily, and "every single one of their friends and neighbors," with all the latter being mutated. This includes Clyde, Bobby, Ronnie Anne, Sam, Chaz, and presumably the rest of the Louds' friends (Lynn's teammates, Luna's bandmates, etc.).
    • Special mention goes to Lynn Sr., Rita and especially Lily, who are forced to stay behind in the mutated Royal Woods while Rick and the siblings leave the universe. Even though later they are revealed to be staying in Mewni, it’s still tragic that they may never see their own family again.
  • Luan at the end of the chapter. In the new universe 99.8% similar to their last, one of the differences is Benny not having feelings for the former. Luan realizes this after getting rejected, and decides to take this out on Luna.
    Luna: Dude, is something wrong?
Luan: Oh, nothing really. I think it's great that the person who used a love potion and destroyed the world gets to have a girlfriend anyway. Meanwhile, because of you, I lost out on dating Benny!
    Luna: I-I'm sorry, I-I didn't-
Luan: But no, good for you. You messed up and you got rewarded for it. I hope you're proud of yourself you-YOU DYKE!
    • What makes it worse is that all before Benny rejects her, the rest of the Louds were able to either make amends or go on with their relationships that were already occurring before the love potion (Luna with Sam, Lincoln with Ronnie Anne, Lori with Bobby and Lucy with Rocky). Luan was legit the only one who lost her relationship.

Toads, Tiaras and Something Ricked

  • Lola jeopardizing her entire pageant career. After consuming a drink given to her by Mr. Needful, Lola transforms into a demon on the pageant stage after discovering Lincoln and Lana's plan. Once Rick cures her, Lola is left utterly humiliated up seeing the destruction she caused among the pageant, as she leaves the stage in tears.

Frog Wild Run

  • Lana reluctantly kills Fart at the end of the chapter. What makes it hit harder compared to canon is that she's then described as needing a moment to cry into Lincoln's shoulder.

Tiny Rick, Friend or Faux?

The Wedding Squanchers

  • All the children are beyond shocked after the events of Birdperson's wedding. Special mention goes to Lori, who can barely fathom Tammy's betrayal. As this universe's Tammy is Lori's childhood friend, the latter refuses to accept the truth about what she just witnessed, to a point where she blames Rick for her betrayal.

The Loudest Mission: Rickshank Redemption

  • The Galactic Federation has destroyed Great Lakes City. While Bobby, Ronnie Anne and the Casagrandes remain alive, a ton of the citizens unfortunately did not make it (outside the Changs).
    • This is further explored in Rick or Treat when Lincoln and his friends meet some of the victims in an alternate universe where the recently deceased are alive and vice versa.
  • The entire standoff between one Rick holding Leni hostage, and the main Rick seemingly okay with killing her. Leni is sobbing by the end, and Lori's Big Sister Instinct is on fire. Even with the reveal that it was all a bluff and Leni wasn't being discarded, it's painful to read.

Vindicators 3: Deal Me Out

  • Like in the original episode, Rick drunkenly records a heartfelt message for Noob-Noob, and his grandson is the one who sees it instead. But this time, Rick adds a rant about how badly he messed up with Lynn's disappearance.
Rick: Listen Noob-Noob, I-I need to confess something to you. This is-this is why I brought you down here. I-I-I’m a fuck up! I let my granddaughter get hurt after I told myself to... to never let it happen and now I have no fucking clue where she is! This is...this is all I do, I fucking hurt every-everyone around me. I c-can’t fucking stop myself. I’m a monster! God, what am I saying? I-I-I can’t say this shit to Noob-Noob! F-Fuck it, I’m changing it to- (message gets cut off)

Toxicity In The Family

  • The opening of this chapter is even more gut wrenching than the opening of the corresponding RM episode, because now you've got the younger Louds sobbing over a disastrous mission that went off the rails instead of Morty.
  • All the Louds' toxic Shadow Archetypes lend some upsetting insight into their insecurities. One that gets the most focus is Lincoln struggling with feeling a need to be useful.
  • At the end of the chapter, Luna confesses to Sam what she did back in the original universe. Sam is horrified, then runs off, leaving Luna with her family.

Man With The Plan

  • Just like in the original episode, almost all the plots are a parade of Shaggy Dog Stories. But special mention goes to Lit Lynn revealing that Lynns are The Unfavorite among Ricks, as she and her other selves are almost never adopted on their own.

The Loudest Thanksgiving Mindblowers

  • Rick finds out the Santiago/Casagrande Kids have stumbled upon his collection of horrific memories he erased from his grandchildren, the last of which revealed to them the Cronenberg Incident and the location of Anatomy Park. All the kids chew out Rick, who whips out the same memory-erasing gun he uses on his kids, but the last lines before he fires are a straight Gut Punch.
Ronnie Anne: Y-You can't do this!
    Rick: Trust me, I can.
    Ronnie Anne: You're a monster!
    Rick: (Sighs) Yep.

The Old Man, The Seat and the Shop Girl

  • Just like in canon, Rick activating the holographic mockery after rejecting Tony's friendship and learning of his death. But this time, Lisa was also there, watching from a distance. Throughout the story, she's been frustrated because while she respects Rick's intellect, he keeps encouraging her to be different from him. It all comes together with this narration:
"It started to rain. As Lisa saw the depressed look on Rick's face, she had finally realized exactly why Rick didn't want her to turn out like him."

One Crew Over the Crew Coo's Lynn

  • Related to the aforementioned tearjerkers with Lynn, Lincoln doesn't get off clean either. When Lincoln tries to call Rick out for how someone died for Rick's plan, Rick throws it back in Lincoln's face that he's killed people before too. Lincoln does not take it well.

Gods Among Rick

No Such Luck

  • Despite being President of the Earth, all of Lynn's attempts to bond with Lincoln fail, as this just further distances Lincoln from her hobbies.

No Such Thing As Luck

  • After breaking free of Lynn's mind control, Lincoln and Lucy are in disbelief that their own sister basically took control of their lives.
  • Lincoln reveals to Lucy that the "Intergalactic Softball Tournament" Lynn supposedly went to was a lie; it was a cover for the fact that Lynn ran away to get away from Rick after their last botched adventure.
  • At first, Lincoln refuses to help Rick and Lucy confront Lynn, revealing to the latter that he believes any attempt to be helpful will result with people getting hurt as it did in the past. He even brings up the fact that when he was detoxified, his "healthy" side was a selfish little brat and he's starting to think that's who he really is.
  • The climatic fight between Lincoln and Lynn is equal parts awesome and heartbraking as it's essentially the two siblings fighting a brutal battle for the fate of the world, with Lynn rubbing in Lincoln's face about how weak he is without her and Lincoln letting out how he avoided her because of her violent, self-centered attitude.
    • After Lincoln pushes her back enough to make her bleed, Lynn's emotional state reaches a breaking point, and in her rage, warps the area around them to the point where it's just a wrecked-up island. Her world is literally and figuratively coming apart all around her. Even her eye liner gets messed to the point that it looks like tears.
    • As Lincoln tries to get through to Lynn, she warps the area again. This time, it's an empty field with only a goal post, Lincoln and Lynn, who's crying and wearing her old outfit from her traumatic first year in middle school. Lincoln is now seeing Lynn's true self; a scared and insecure young girl who didn't want to be hurt and bullied ever again, but in the process became a bully herself.
    • While Lynn does change things back to normal, it sadly doesn't change the fact that she brainwashed the entire planet to suit her worldview and was even willing to kill Rick to preserve it. It remains to be seen if the rest of the family will be as forgiving as Lincoln.

Blood Sports

  • Naturally, everyone is shocked and/or angry at Lynn after learning about how she brainwashed the world. Even Lola's the angriest she's ever been since losing her pageant career.
  • After witnessing the horrifying titular "blood sport" and thinking back to how ruthless she was in the Blood Dome, poor Lynn breaks down crying and calls herself a monster.
  • Luan feels really guilty about what she told Maggie about Luna and the rest of her siblings, feeling like she still hasn't forgiven her for ruining their old dimension. She can't even bring herself to tell Maggie about the forced kiss she gave while under the influence of the Infinity Balls.
  • While things with Lynn seem to be resolved, Rick is still on thin ice with the other kids, especially Lori as she warns Rick that he has one last chance to be better or he's done in the family. What's more, when Rita and Lynn Sr. question Rick about what happened in the recent chapters, he wipes their memories of the event, demonstrating how he barely learned a thing.

This Bird Has Flown Into Space

  • After everything Rick and the Casagrandes have been through in this chapter, Rosa tells Rick to stay away from her family, before slamming her apartment door in his face. That's one more family Rick has alienated. He just stands there for a minute while Carl and Adelaide's Brick Joke plays out around him.

The Rick Revenge Squad

  • She may lose sympathy points for targeting Rick's grandchidren, but you can tell Krombopulos Amy really loved her husband, Michael, and is clearly distraught by his death.

Nicktoons Unite!

  • In the chapters B-Plot, Lucy asks Lynn why she gave up ruling the world. Lynn answers that in addition to because she was hurting her family, she had always known that deep down, that was a small part of her that knew what she was doing was wrong and none of the praise and admiration she was feeling was earned.
  • Lucy brings up the "Princess Pony" fiasco and reveals there was more to hiding her fondness for the book than just fear of her siblings picking on her. Some people mocked her for just being goth, thinking that it was "just a phase" that she'd grow out of. If people found out she liked a girly book like "Princess Pony", it would have ended up proving them right.

Interdimensional Cable 3: AU Edition

  • Just the mere concept of the Andrias and Belos universe, as both succeeded in their plans, meaning all the leads from both shows DIED in their efforts to stop the two villains. Double tragic for Andrias, as unlike canon, AU Andrias’ rejected his one moment of redemption and continued the invasion.
    • Rick single-handedly defeats The Core, freeing Marcy from its clutches. Fridge sadness kicks in however, with the outcome Marcy may never see her best friends or any of her Amphibia comrades ever again. Fridge horror kicks in when it’s revealed Andrias still succeeded in invading her home, meaning there’s the possibility her parents were killed among the many lives inevitably lost in the invasion.
  • In the vampire AU, Lucy accidentally kills Haiku. Then after finding out Rick can’t bring her back to life, she bites him out of anger. Not wanting anyone of her loved ones to suffer again, she then infects the entire world, along with other dimensions brought up in the fic as well, all with the side of Rick. Yet, after all these victories, Lucy ends up feeling nothing, believing everything she accomplished to be pointless, all while still grieving over Haiku.
