Season One

  • The anniversary of Daniel's death. The kids keep some of his photos and give offerings to him in the abandoned building they hang out with, smudge themselves with sage, and do a Group Hug before chorusing that they all miss him.
  • In "What About Your Dad" when Bear realizes his dad is just making excuses to not visit him. After Punkin fails to say "I love you" back to Bear when he says it, Bear starts tearing up until Rita talks to him. She tells Bear that any relationship he has with his father will never be on his terms, which is a harsh reality he sadly needed to know.
  • Uncle Brownie telling Elora how much he misses her mom (who wasn't his biological sister but still called him "brother"). When Elora asks him to tell her about Cookie, Brownie admits he can't do so because he'll be crying too hard if he speaks of her.
  • Willie Jack and her dad, Leon, breaking down over Daniel's death while out hunting. Leon confesses that he's taken his nephew's death especially hard and had a rough year.
  • "California Dreamin'":
    • The reveal of what happened to Daniel—after a night out with Elora where he comes up with the idea to leave the rez and go to California, she goes by his house the next day and finds that he didn't come home. At Bear's suggestion, she checks Rob and Cleo's (the building where the teens made a shrine for Daniel), and Elora discovers Daniel hung himself over night. She can only grab onto his legs while wailing hysterically.
    • The reveal of what happened to Elora's mother, Cookie. She and her boyfriend, Rodney, were drinking with Brownie and Bobson. Rodney insisted on driving home. Brownie tried to stop them, even getting into a fight with Rodney, but they went anyway and were in an accident. It is presented very much like Cookie's death affected Coach Bobson the way Daniel's death did Elora.
Bobson: There's before they died, and after. Ripples in between.
  • From "Satvrday":
    • Willie Jack's speech about why she doesn't want to leave for California - it's her parents' anniversary, and like her, they've felt the sting of Daniel's death for the past year. She wants to stay with them because she doesn't know how much more time she'll have with them.
    • Bear and Elora's argument, where she compares him to his dad for mooching off of her, and he hits back that she has to stop acting like she isn't just going to California for Daniel's sake and like the others don't miss him terribly as much as she does.
    • The episode ends with Elora leaving the reservation with Jackie, leaving the other Rez Dogs behind.

Season Two

  • "Roofing":
    • William Knifeman dispenses some actual good advice about grief and loss, due to Bear working with Daniel's father and still trying to come to terms with his suicide.
    • Bear and Daniel Sr. also have a moment where the latter reveals that his wife left him and he hasn't touched a drink since. He also assures Bear that Daniel's suicide wasn't his fault and that the adults in his life should have been the ones to notice he was suffering. After their talk, they suddenly see a rainbow-ish orb floating off in the distance (heavily implied to be Daniel's spirit).
  • "Mabel":
    • The Rez Dogs reunite after Elora's return because her grandmother is dying. After she passes, Elora runs outside to cry, only to find Mabel appearing to her as a spirit who encourages her to keep moving forward.
    • We also have all the adults lamenting the fact that it took Mabel's death for everyone to reunite. The last time they were all together was for Cookie's funeral.
  • Willie Jack inadvertently makes fun of Jackie's brother, who she didn't know was dead. When she tries to apologize, Jackie only tells her to watch her back.
  • Bear calls out Elora for leaving them to go to California with Jackie. Elora says she's sorry she hurt Bear but not sorry she left.
  • Big's genuine distress as he flashes back to the last night Cookie was alive and how he regrets not being able to stop her and her boyfriend before their fatal crash.
  • Willie Jack visits with Hokti, Daniel's mother, in prison. She confides her fear that the Rez Dogs are breaking up and asks for advice.
  • "I Still Believe":
    • Cheese gives a speech addressed to Daniel, expressing how his death has deeply affected him and his friends, with Cheese saying he was mad at him for leaving.
    • Daniel appearing in their group hug.

Season Three

  • Bear gives William Knifeman a "The Reason You Suck" Speech. William is so hurt that he stops visiting Bear, even when Bear asks for his help.
  • Deer Lady's backstory in "Deer Lady": She is taken from her family, has her braids cut off, is physically punished for speaking her own language, is forced to do hard labor, and to top it all off, the one friend she makes is killed by the school's overseer.
  • On a camping trip, Cheese holds an impromptu therapy group with Big, Bucky, and Brownie. Big cries about his guilt over Cookie's death while Bucky and Brownie reveal their guilt that they pushed away their old friend Maximus.
  • Rita is visited by Cookie's spirit fifteen years after her friend's premature death. Cookie cries about how she is unable to communicate with Elora but also unable to move on to the afterlife.
  • What convinces Maximus to visit Fixico is Willie Jack telling him that she wishes she could see her cousin Daniel again, while Maximus still has (dwindling) time to reconcile. The hospital reunion scene has everyone struggling to hold it together in the hallway while Maximus is at his cousin's bedside.
