The car crash. If you thought it would be a straightforward crash, you would be mistaken. First, a tree branch falls through the windshield, impaling into Mona, seemingly killing her instantly. William yells, as the car speeds through a turn sign and down a precipice; the kids scream. The car lands in a river, with the only reason that William survives is that there is less water in his side, so he doesn’t drown.
William’s reaction when he discovers his whole family is dead is heartbreaking. He carries them out of the car and cradles them in his arms as reality starts sinking in.
Even worse is seeing this with the knowledge of what Keanu actually went through in his life. Namely, the fact that his ex also died in a car crash.
William has the excruciatingly painful task of deciding which child won’t be brought back. When he picks Zoe, it shows him with his head in his arms, sobbing.
