Tear Jerker / Make Mine Music

• The ending of "The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met" is a rare Bittersweet Ending for a Disney productions. While in the middle of his dream about singing opera in front of an audience, Willie the Whale is harpooned by Tetti-Tatti. The short makes it clear that he is singing in Heaven, but ultimately he is still dead.
  • The final shot of Willie singing in Heaven is both beautiful and tragic.
• The entirety of "Without You".
• All but two of the family members in "The Martins and the Coys" wind up dead after a feud. While most of the short is Played for Laughs the part where they float into Heaven is a little depressing. The song takes a more somber and melancholy tone during this scene as well.
• "Johnny Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet" is pretty depressing throughout, as Johnny struggles desperately to find Alice but everything starts going wrong for him. Thankfully, he finds her in the end.
• Although "Peter and the Wolf" has a happy ending, it does have a sequence were it is believed that Sonia the duck was eaten by the Wolf. Sasha crying over Sonia near the end is pretty sad, although she turns out to be alive and well.
