As if wandering for 500 years isn't depressing enough, the manga has many moments that make you wanna give the various characters a hug.

  • In Chapter 1, while Mika's destroying the murderer who posed as a kind nun, the woman chokes out "Monster" to Mika. At the end, while Mika's burying Karen, the girl who was murdered, Mika sheds tears as she mutters that it's the same thing, regarding people dying and her still being alive.

  • In chapter 14, when Mika nullified her contract with Lumiere in order to let him live his own life, she tries to continue the journey without him. This exchange occurs:
    Lumiere: Are you alright?
Mika: *on her knees after slipping on the ground* Don't follow me. I don't have any reason to let you stay with me.
Lumiere: *walking past her* I refuse.
    Mika: I don't care. I don't need you anymore!
Lumiere: *crouched in front of Mika* Then...why are you crying?
    • After Mika processes that she decided to nullify the contract in order to not lose the light:
Lumiere: Hey, Miss...you can continue using me. I...liked you from the beginning because of your immortality. So I sometimes disliked my old self. But now I'm different. What I hate is not to part with the immortal Miss, but to simply part with Miss. I don't want to be separated from you. Miss, let's go... Being by oneself is too lonely. This time I won't just be accompanying Miss like before. This time, let us both walk on this journey.

  • Julia's final words in chapter 33 after protecting Mika from getting stabbed by a fearful villager:
Julia: ...Go on a journey...Mika. You're sister is out there somewhere, right? She's definitely waiting for you. Witchcraft is a way of life. That's how I have taught you.
    Mika: Julia.
Julia: The truth is, since a long time ago... I didn't want to let you go. ...Go. My clever...kind...adorable Mika. My proud daughter.
    • In the same chapter, Lumiere - after being informed by Nina that Mika is close to claiming her heart - stops Mika from boarding a ship by pulling her and catching her in a hug. He suggests that they travel foreign places instead.
Lumiere: 'I...I will follow my wish. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I don't want Miss to die. I can't stop Miss' journey. But if it's a matter of changing her destination... I don't want Miss to die. That is...That is my betrayal towards Miss.'

  • Chapter 29 starts with a young woman dying in the snow, and the rest of the chapter is her past experience with meeting Mika. That same woman, an ex-maid named Iris, was traveling many lands in order to fulfill her deceased lady's wish. By the end of the chapter, Iris dies and is reunited with the mistress who saved her from the slums and gave her a purpose.

  • In Chapter 35, "Nightingale", it's about how a carriage driver tried to free a young girl from captivity, only to see her run back to her master. He realized that he never asked the girl if she wanted to be free in the first place.

  • Chapter 38 deals with Lumiere's past before he met Mika. He was raised by a young woman ever since he was an egg, always starting each day with getting petted by her. However, when Lumiere tried to get the woman to wake up by rubbing his head on her hand, he realized that she passed away due to old age.

  • Chapter 41 reveals how Mika came to have her heart taken away by Nina: After doing a Twin Switch because Nina had a vision that she was dead, the ceremony for the Holy Spirit takes place. However, an earthquake occurs and a column collapses on Mika, and Nina arrives too late. Nina screams, causing water to be pulled up from the temple, and for wings to sprout from her back. Mika comes to, and Nina tries to call out to someone for help, but the temple is ablaze and everyone is dead. Horloge materializes and Nina begs him to bring back Mika by reversing time. In doing so, Horloge gives Nina Mika's heart and she's entrusted with it until Mika returns.

  • Chapter 42 has Mika saying farewell, first to Ritsuka, thanking him and being glad that someone was willing to learn the things that Mika was taught by Julia. After that, Mika summons Lumiere into his human form and nullifies the contract once more. Hurt, Lumiere embraces Mika with enough force that they fall to the ground, and Lumiere tearfully confesses that he loves her so much that he'd rather die with her than live in a world without her.
    • Once Mika begins disappearing into light, she encourages Ritsuka and Lumiere to continue living while smiling. Lumiere tries to embrace her one last time, but is too late, and he calls out to her one more time.
    • Not long after the two are summoned by Horloge, the spirit reveals that Nina was the twin whose heart stopped, and Nina sheds Tears of Remorse for all of the suffering that she inflicted. Lumiere wipes away Nina's tears and forgives her, saying that everyone does things out of selfishness. Nina thanks him, and is sent back to the burning temple, and releases Mika's heart.
    • After 14 years have passed, Lumiere and Ritsuka arrive at the temple for the ceremony, and the earthquake occurs. Lumiere transforms into his dragon self and saves Mika, being reminded that it's like how he and Mika first met. Once back in his human form, Mika thanks him, smiling widely at him. Lumiere and Ritsuka shed tears at this, since this means that the Miss that they loved no longer exists.
Lumiere: ...It's no use. You're not my Miss. You're not her.
    • After completing his promise, Lumiere lies in the snow and muses on what Mika meant to him. He recalls the fairy-tale of the Witch of the Boundary and Lumiere covers his arms over his face as he sheds tears.
