Tear Jerker / Hozier

• The music video for "Nina Cried Power" features people listening to the song while news footage of civil rights protests play in the background. Listener reactions were not scripted. Quite a few of them had wet eyes by the time the song was over.
• The end of the music video for "Take Me To Church" shows a group of violent homophobes beating a gay man to death. His lover arrives only to watch in horror.
• "Cherry Wine" completely averts Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male, with the narrator's girlfriend being cruel and hitting him, but him being too devoted to even consider leaving. The whole song is a resigned, desperate love ballad towards someone who will only continue to hurt him, as he tries to spin their situation to sound romantic and beautiful. It sounds very much like rationalizations made by real victims of abuse, either to convince themselves they aren't victims, or to explain why they haven't left.
