Tear Jerker / Fritz the Cat

• A somber montage in a Harlem garbage dump, set to a 1939 recording of "Yesterdays" by Billie Holiday, juxtaposing trash with broken dreams: a high school yearbook from the 1930s; a framed, inscribed photograph of a crow soldier in Vietnam; a book of unused ration coupons from World War II; a vinyl record, pearl necklaces, a broken hypodermic needle; and a discarded crow family album with photos dating back to the Civil War.
• Duke the Crow getting shot by a stray bullet. Not only is he one of the friendlier and more sympathetic characters in the movie, but he's also the only male character to care about Fritz's well being. Even sadder, Fritz barely noticed he was even there in the first place. He doesn't even bother to bat an eye at his corpse.
• Fritz comforting Harriet after she's been gang-raped. Unlike Duke's death, this time he's a lot more sympathetic. If you look closely, he can be seen shedding a tear while walking away from her.
• In a way, the fact that Fritz learns nothing from everything he's been through and resigns himself to a life of debauchery, even if it it is Played for Laughs. If one is to take Nine Lives as canon, all it ultimately led to was a loveless marriage and a life on the street.
