Tear Jerker / Frasier (2023)

Go To

  • In the first episode Frasier angrily demands to know why Freddy missed Marty's funeral. Freddy reveals a story about how he had been traumatised by the loss of a friend and co-worker in a fire (he was also Eve's boyfriend and John's father). Freddy suffered a severe case of survivor's guilt and Marty came to see him, telling stories of friends he'd lost in the line of duty as a police officer. He helped Freddy through his grief, but it made it too hard for Freddy to go to the funeral. After hearing this, Frasier softens and gives Freddy a gift from Marty, the flag that was flown during his funeral, and promises to do better as a father.
  • In the fourth episode, Frasier and Eve have a conversation revolving around Frasier supposedly being ashamed of Freddy being a mere firefighter rather than an intellectual like himself. Not only does Frasier make it clear that he doesn't look down on firefighters at all, but the real reason why he's trying to push Freddy into a different career is because he's deeply worried about his son's safety, similar to how he and Niles would worry about Marty's safety when they were kids.
  • David earns a "B" and goes to great lengths to convert it into an "A" out of genuine fear that Niles will be infuriated and force him to leave Harvard for a lower-tier school (UPenn, another Ivy League school, but still). He and Freddy bond over how they sometimes feel like outsiders in their own family while Freddy reveals that his genuine love of academia was soured by his parents' expectations.
