• The episode title "The Silence of the Cicadas" is taken from "The Silence of the Lambs".
• "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" is a reference to Lynne Truss's non-fiction book on the hazards of bad punctuation, and/or the panda-walks-into-a-restaurant joke that her title referenced.
• In "Murmuration", Abe musters the local firefighters to drive away attacking crows with fire hoses. In The Birds, Melanie sees fire hoses being wielded against the attacking gulls when she's trapped in the phone booth.
