Symbol of Justice Condorman is a Toku series created by Kohan Kawauchi in conjunction with Toei Company. It was the last of the three Toku shows Kawauchi worked on in the 70s, coming after Warrior of Love Rainbowman and Diamond Eye Warrior Of Light.

The Earth is being attacked by the Monster Clan, an organization of monsters born from the pollution humanity has done to the environment. Isshin Mitsuya, a young man affiliated with an N.G.O. committed to world peace, finds himself caught in between one of their assaults. After Isshin saves the egg of the legendary Dragon Condor but is fatally wounded in the process, the mystical creature repays Isshin by infusing him with the essence of the Golden Condor and revived him as Condorman, giving him to fight to defend the world from the Monster Clan and their nefarious schemes.

No relation to the Disney superhero movie, Condorman.

Tropes:

  • Avenging the Villain: Barbe Q's wife, Madam Barbe Q, comes to avenge him ten episodes after his death in battle against Condorman.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Oh yes. Typically it'll be "Condoru [attack name]!"
  • Cliffhanger: A lot of episodes end with Condorman or one of his loved ones in peril, only for the situation to be immediately resolved at the beginning of the next episode.
  • Clip Show: Episode 14 function as a recap of the events of the first half of the series.
  • Cool Car: Condorman drives around in a pretty decked out car called "Mach Condor".
  • Create Your Own Hero: Isshin being killed by the Monster Clan while protecting the Dragon Condor's egg is what leads the Dragon Condor reanimating him as Condorman, resulting in the birth of the Monster Clan's greatest enemy.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Red Bat is considerably more humanlike than the other members of the Monster Clan, being played by an actress in makeup as opposed to a person in a rubber suit like the other Monsters.
  • The Dragon: Technically, King Monster starts the series with seven Co-Dragons, though each takes a different turn at the helm.
  • Fat Bastard: Barbe Q and Gokibura are both portly in their human forms, and both are evil monsters.
  • I Have Your Wife: A common tactic of the Monster Clan is to go after Condorman's loved ones, in particular his little niece Makoto. It's taken to extremes in episode 13 when Salamander kidnaps not just Makoto, but Condorman's parents and brother and sister-in-law, along with every child he's befriended over the course of the series, all just to lure Condorman out.
  • Karma Houdini: King Monster is not defeated at the end of the series and simply opts to flee once Condorman discovers his weak spot, vowing to found a new Monster Clan and come after Condorman again.
  • Land, Sea, Sky: The top three executives of the Monster Clan — Smogton, Gomigon and Hedoronger — are each themed after a different type of pollution. Smogton is air, Gomigon is land and Hedoronger is sea.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Isshin has no memories of his previous life after he's resurrected by the dragon.
  • Light Is Good: Condorman is white and bright gold, and is undoubtedly a hero.
  • Monster of the Week: Condorman plays around with this quite a bit. Most of the monsters are seen at the very beginning in the Monster Clan's board room and a lot of monsters stick around for two or even three episodes.
  • Mooks: Majin Combatants, the military-uniformed grunts of the Monster Clan.
  • Muck Monster: Hedoronger, a monster made of toxic sludge who wears a black hood.
  • Putting on the Reich: The Majin Combatants wear dark green uniforms and helmets resembling those worn by German Army soldiers under Nazi Germany.
  • Sorting Algorithm of Evil: The Monster Clan has a defined hierarchy that Condorman makes his way up throughout the series. He starts off facing lower-ranked executives in the Far East branch like Satan Gametsku and Red Bat before making his way up to the director of the branch, Salamander. Then he fights Oil Snake, who is of equal rank to Salamander, before facing the three Grand Executives of the Monster Clan who report only to King Monster, and then King Monster himself.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: As should probably be expected, Condorman can understand the language of birds.
  • Starter Villain: Sadler is the first member of the Monster Clan that Isshin encounters, and the one indirectly responsible for his transformation into Condorman.
  • Transformation Trinket: Isshin's golden condor feather, which he holds up to transform into Condorman.
  • Villain-Based Franchise: The Monster Clan are featured just as prominently as Condorman. In fact, both the opening and ending themes are based around them.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The Monster Clan have no issue threatening Makoto just to get at Condorman, even though she's only a little girl, nor do they have any compunction targeting any of the other children Condorman has befriended.
