Margarida Rosa (Sara Barradas), in her adolescence, after being raped and witnessing her father's murder, runs away to Lisbon in fear of being killed as well.

Fourteen years later, with the name Vitória Santareno, she returns to her origins intending to get revenge. She gets a job as the nurse for Catarina Santa Cruz (Maria José Paschoal), the mother of her rapists: the four Santa Cruz brothers. She moves into the Lagoon Homestead and begins plotting her revenge.

This soap opera is currently aired by TVI. Its first season ran from March 23 to June 20, the second ran from June 22 to August 4, and the third ran from August 5 to October 26.

Given its success, on September 5, 2020, a live-show lasting 6 hours aired on TVI, reuniting the soap's actors and the bands forming its audio-track. Pedro Teixeira and Ana Sofia Martins were the hosts of this live-air show.

Quer O Destino's website

[Quer O Destino] contains examples of:

  • A Fool and His New Money Are Soon Parted: Alfredo after winning the lottery. As it turns out, he never cashed in the prize, and thus gets himself in heavy debt.

  • Alpha Bitch: Catarina Santa Cruz.

  • Bad Boss: Marcos is shown to be this when he gains control of the Lagoon Homestead's financial business in the first season.
    • In the beginning of the third season, Carlos is in front of the Lagoon Homestead's business and is shown to be this as well mostly on account of his alcoholic tendencies.

  • Being Personal Isn't Professional: When she first arrived at the Lagoon Homestead, Victória played this trope straight, given she was in the home of her rapists.

  • Big Bad Emsemble: Catarina Santa Cruz until her death at the beginning of the third season,Rita Paiva do Amaral, Marcos Santa Cruz, and Mateus Santa Cruz.

  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: The Santa Cruz family, and how. Out of the four Santa Cruz brothers, the only that seems to be completely sane and well-adjusted is Lucas.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Rita Paiva do Amaral, in order to trick Lucas.

  • Broken Pedestal: Mateus idolized his mother to a creepy extent, but after she tricks him into almost committing suicide via pills, he begins realizing she was never someone to idolize in the first place.
MATEUS (to Vitória): Every mother lies.

  • Character Development: As is usual in soap operas, most characters change and grow as the story progresses. Some change for the better (Vitória and João are notable examples) while other change for the worse (Isabela and Mateus are notable examples).

  • Child by Rape:
    • Ana Catarina. The rape of her biological mother, in which she was concieved, originated the entire plot.
    • Carlos. He was concieved when his mother Joana was raped by Bernardo Santa Cruz. This is kept secret until well into Carlos' adult years.

  • Churchgoing Villain: Catarina and Mateus Santa Cruz.
    • Later, in the third season Isabela joins this list as well.

  • Contrived Coincidence: What were the odds of Ana Catarina being adopted by her biological uncle without him knowing that?

  • The Corrupter: Mateus, to Isabela. Despite learning of his all his terrible actions at the climax of the second season, she cannot stop loving him, and thus sticks by his side against everyone, including her family, her friends, and even the police. Of course, all this takes a heavy mental toll on her.

  • Disappeared Dad: Vitória's father, whose murder she tries to uncover during the story.
    • Bernardo, Catarina's husband and the father of the four Santa Cruz brothers, died some years before the events of the story.

  • Evil Matriarch: Catarina Santa Cruz. Her official character page tells us her life motto is "Family above all".

  • Evil Uncle: Mateus, the soap´s Big Bad, is Ana Catarina´s uncle. (or so everyone thinks, before it's revealed he's actually her biological father).

  • Fake Relationship: Marcos and Isabela in the third season. They do this in order to thwart the police from discovering they are helping Mateus while he's on the run.

  • Family of Choice: Vitória and Maria aren't related by blood, yet they see each other as sisters after everything they went through together before the events of the story.

  • Fanservice: Several scenes act as this. Characters such as Patrícia and João are usually the targets.

  • From New York to Nowhere: In the beginning of the story, Vitória moves from Lisbon (Portugal's capital) to Salvaterra de Magos.

  • I Choose to Stay: Subverted. After Vitória ends up in the hospital at the end of the second season, Lucas flies away to Brazil, not waiting to see if Vitória lives or dies.
    • Played straight in the third season, when Ana is hospitalized after escaping Mateus.

  • Kindly Vet: Subverted. Mateus is Lagoon Homestead's vet. He's also a cynical rapist and murderer.
    • Played straight with Madalena Curto, Mateus' replacement after he gets badly injured in a horse accident.

  • Likes Older Men: Patrícia.

  • Missing Mom: Vitória's mother is heavily implied to have died when she as a child.
    • Matilde, Ana Catarina's adoptive mother, died from cancer years before the events of the story.
    • After being accidentally killed by Marcos, Carla becomes this for her three children.

  • No Doubt the Years Have Changed Me: It's mostly because of this Margarida Rosa (or rather, Vitória Santareno) manages to get a job in the Lagoon Homestead to enact revenge. Only one person recognizes her: her ex-boyfriend from teenagehood, Carlos Reis.

  • Not Afraid to Die: Mateus accuses Vitória of this after she gives herself in as to let Ana escape.

  • The Penance: Mateus frequently harms himself when praying.
    • This is also implied to be the reason why João consumes drugs: he's trying to make himself numb to the trauma he suffered.

  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Played straight. This is what sets off the story, as Vitória will stop at nothing to ruin her rapists' lives, 14 years later.

  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: When Vitória and Carlos try to rekindle their relationship after 14 years, it becomes very clear that both of them changed a lot and became incompatible, and their relationship ends up not working out as they expected.

  • Unholy Matrimony: Mateus and Isabela, and to a lesser extent, Marcos and Rita.
